Wilson House

Wilson House

Wilson House is one of the College’s girls’ Houses

Wilson House is named after Sir William James Erasmus Wilson (1809–1884), a pioneering dermatologist and generous philanthropist whose legacy remains deeply rooted in the history of Epsom. A leading figure in medicine and President of the Royal College of Surgeons, Wilson funded the construction of the original Wilson House in 1871 to accommodate students and staff, marking a key moment in the College’s evolution. His vision helped open the doors of Epsom College in the UK to students from non-medical backgrounds, with Wilson House offering them a place “under the Headmaster’s especial eye.” Over time, the house became a full boarding facility, later becoming a girls’ house in 1998. Wilson’s lasting legacy is reflected in the house crest—a seated wolf—and the family motto Expecta Cuncta Superna (“Expect all things from Above”), symbolising his lifelong dedication to education, access, and care for others.
