The Opening of Wells House

On 5 January 2026, Wells House opened its doors for the very first time, welcoming 36 Boarders and 7 Day Students into a warm and vibrant new community. As the College’s newest House, it stands proudly on the foundations of our core values; Service, Unity, and Excellence, and reflects the spirit of our motto, Praesidium et Fidelitas.

Wells House carries a special legacy. It is named in honour of Dr Alastair Wells (1960–2024), a former Epsom College UK Governor, whose decades of dedication and care left an enduring impact on student wellbeing. Inspired by his example, Wells House embraces a simple but powerful belief: young people thrive when they feel safe, supported, and deeply connected to those around them.

Leading this new chapter are our House Leaders, Thadar Z. and Nang Y., who have already begun cultivating a culture defined by warmth, high expectations, teamwork, and mutual respect. Their leadership is helping to set the tone for what Wells House will become in the years ahead.

As the journey begins, both students and staff are excited to build traditions that will give the House its own identity and rhythm. Plans include monthly birthday celebrations, termly House breakfasts, joyful karaoke nights, and major cultural festivities that reflect the diversity of our community. These shared experiences ensure that every student feels welcomed, valued, and part of something larger than themselves. In time, such moments will form the heartbeat of Wells House culture.

Strengthening relationships across year groups is central to the House vision. To support this, we have introduced Connect Groups, small, mixed-year clusters designed to encourage mentorship, leadership, and genuine friendships. Through collaborative projects, reflective discussions, and fun challenges, these groups help to break down barriers and build unity. Older students serve as role models, whilst younger students benefit from practical guidance and support, ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging from the very beginning.

The opening of Wells House marks an exciting milestone for our community: a space grounded in heritage, shaped by strong values, and energised by the enthusiasm of its founding students. With emerging traditions, dedicated leadership, and a shared spirit of togetherness, Wells House is poised to flourish for generations to come.
