Peer Mentoring Programme
Earlier this month, Epsom launched an exciting opportunity with the introduction of our new peer mentoring programme, which aims to promote healthy and positive behaviours within the school community. Over 65 students from the lower school have been assigned supportive and caring role models from the 6th form, who will work alongside teachers to provide care, guidance, and support. We hope that this level of personalized guidance and advice will bring a range of benefits to both mentees and mentors, including increased confidence, academic and language support, study skills, leadership, stress management, and social integration.
At Epsom, we believe that, in addition to parental and teacher guidance, responsible young adults can play a significant role in the development of KS3 students. Over the past few weeks, mentors have undergone training and are now confident in delivering effective and supportive advice to their mentees. We recognize that young adults are in a unique position to support younger students, as they may have experienced similar challenges in their development, such as learning a new language, taking exams, or being new to a boarding school.
Last Tuesday, we hosted a social event where mentors and mentees met each other for the first time to engage in activities, team building, and, of course, cake! We hope that this event helped to foster strong relationships between the students so that, when they meet after half-term, they will feel more comfortable with one another.
