Rehearsals for Mamma Mia! have begun in earnest, and after a competitive casting process, it is wonderful to see the students settle into their roles and develop their understanding of characters. With two rehearsals a week for the ensemble and four for our leads, the cast is developing in confidence and skill. The process has been characterised by teamwork, creativity, and growing achievements that reflect their commitment to this production.
Our priority has been learning the iconic songs of Mamma Mia!, which demand precision as well as performance. The ensemble has worked hard to master the harmonies, while the leads have impressed with their stamina and vocal range.
In parallel, we have begun blocking the key scenes, allowing the students to see how the story flows from one moment to the next. This process has helped them think about character interaction, focus, and movement across the stage. The rehearsal rooms have been filled with teamwork, laughter, and resilience as students refine their skills.
This progress is supported by our dedicated creative team: Mr Russell Crann as Musical Director, guiding the cast through the complexities of the score; Mrs Long, who brings expertise as both Co-Director and Choreographer; and our gap year assistants, Ms Downes and Mr Bell, who add fresh ideas and support. Their combined efforts ensure students are challenged, nurtured, and inspired.
Although much remains to be done – from polishing harmonies to adding choreography – the students have already achieved so much. Their confidence, commitment, and joy in performance are shining through in every rehearsal. With the strong foundation now in place, we are excited to see this production continue to grow and look forward to sharing Mamma Mia! with our community soon.
