Living the Mission and Values at Epsom College Malaysia

This week, Epsom College Malaysia opened the new academic year with an inspiring assembly led by the Head of School, centred on the College’s mission and core values.

Students were reminded that at the heart of the Epsom experience lies the mission “to nurture kind, capable, and principled young people by combining British academic excellence with holistic development, strong pastoral care, and a deep respect for Asian heritage.” The Head highlighted the importance of Epsom’s values – kindness, integrity, and ambition – as guiding principles in every aspect of school life.

To make these values tangible, simple, everyday examples were shared:

  • Kindness and integrity – helping a peer in the dining hall, showing respect and empathy in small daily actions.
  • Academic excellence – striving for mastery, asking questions, and embracing challenges in the classroom.
  • Resilience and capability – pushing beyond comfort zones, bouncing back from setbacks on the sports field or stage.
  • Global perspective and heritage – learning from one another in our diverse community and respecting Asian cultural values.
  • Community and belonging – living and learning together in boarding houses where friendships and support networks grow.
  • Leadership and enrichment – stepping up through societies, CCAs, and service opportunities that develop confidence and responsibility.

The assembly set clear expectations: these values are not abstract words, but the foundation of how students live and learn at Epsom — in classrooms, boarding houses, on sports pitches, and through the arts.

The Head encouraged every student to make this year one in which they fully embody “the Epsom Way” — lessons that are engaging, challenging, relevant, and nurturing. By doing so, students will not only excel academically but also grow into principled, confident individuals ready to make a positive impact in the world.
