10th Anniversary House Music Event: A Celebration of Talent and Tradition
On Wednesday, 17th October, Epsom College in Malaysia celebrated the 10th anniversary of its House Music Competition with a fantastic display of talent, House spirit, and community pride. The theatre was packed to capacity, with a standing-room-only audience eager to see students showcase their musical abilities across a variety of categories. Comperes Sameer and Elie set a lively tone for the evening, guiding the audience through each performance with warmth and energy.
The competition was fierce and each House brought its own flair to the event. Crawfurd House claimed the title of Overall Senior House Winner, while Holman House triumphed in the Junior category. In the Instrumental division, Propert House captivated the crowd with their rendition of Yoru ni Kakeru, demonstrating impressive musicianship and creativity. Rosebery House stood out in both the Part Song and Unison categories, delivering memorable performances. Their Senior students brought depth and emotion to Fix You by Coldplay, while the Juniors lifted spirits with their joyful take on Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper.
The judging panel included Jane Rouson, Head of the Prep School, and Audrey Lingam, a talented vocal teacher and singer, who praised the students’ commitment and musical skill. During the judges’ deliberations, the school choir performed Bridge Over Troubled Water and Thank You for the Music, adding to the evening’s sense of celebration. A video montage then highlighted the past decade of House Music, featuring clips from every competition since the first in 2015.
This milestone anniversary was a wonderful tribute to the tradition of House Music at Epsom, showcasing both the current talent and the longstanding spirit of House competition that has only grown over the years.
Lunchtime Live – 23rd October
Following the success of the House Music event, our Year 10 GCSE students had their first taste of live performance at *Lunchtime Live* on 23rd October. This informal concert, held in the Drama Studio, provided a supportive environment for students to share their talents and gain confidence on stage. From classical pieces to more contemporary selections, the audience enjoyed a diverse programme that highlighted the dedication and promise of our young musicians. This intimate setting allowed students to connect with their peers and teachers, setting the stage for a bright future of GCSE performances.
Sunset Serenade – 6th November
In an enchanting evening performance, our Year 11 GCSE students took centre stage for *Sunset Serenade*, held as the sun set on 6th November. This unique concert was more than a performance; it was a recording session for students’ GCSE solo pieces. With an audience of family, friends, and staff, each student showcased the culmination of their hard work and preparation. The fading light provided a picturesque backdrop, adding warmth and atmosphere to the memorable performances. This event not only marked an academic milestone but celebrated each student’s artistic growth.
