Head of School

Head of School at Epsom College Malaysia, Mrs Avis Parker brings over 15 years’ experience in Malaysia and more than 30 years overall in a distinguished academic career. She holds a degree from the University of Swansea, a PGCE from the University of Bristol, an MA from the University of Nottingham, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the University of Aberdeen. With expertise in teaching History and Geography across various key stages in both the UK and Malaysia, Mrs Parker has also contributed to school improvement for a major local authority in the UK. Her passion for pastoral care and its impact on academic achievement has led her to a number of leadership roles, including Director of Key Stage 4, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, and now Head of School. An advocate of Carol Dweck’s growth mindset, Mrs Parker strives to nurture intelligence and resilience in her students, fostering a positive learning environment in which they can confidently navigate life’s challenges.

Jonathan Marchant

Head of Senior School

With nearly two decades of experience as a teacher and academic leader in the UK and internationally, Mr Marchant has held senior positions at some of the UK’s most respected schools. He was Deputy Head (Academic) at Fettes College in Edinburgh, leading IGCSE, IB Diploma, and A-Level programmes. Prior to that, he was Head of Sixth Form at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, empowering students to excel at top universities worldwide. Mr Marchant has also worked internationally, including consulting on new schools in The Bahamas and teaching in Japan. He is passionate about creating the right conditions for every student to thrive academically and personally at Epsom.

Katherine Fowler

Deputy Headteacher, Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing

Mrs Kate Fowler has extensive experience working in boarding schools in both the UK and internationally as a pastoral leader. She has served as a House Parent at Cranbrook School in the UK and at North London Collegiate School in South Korea, and has also held the role of Head of Year. She believes that schools should provide a safe environment in which students can fulfil their potential, offer a wide range of opportunities, and promote the development of key skills for future success. Mrs Fowler is a strong advocate for developing wellbeing and leadership opportunities for students. Mrs Fowler has over 20 years’ experience teaching Geography and has led highly successful Geography departments in both the UK and internationally. She is passionate about her subject and passes this enthusiasm on to her students. Mrs Fowler is also a keen sports enthusiast who enjoys running and cycling, and has previously coached athletics and hockey.

Dominique Perrang

Deputy Headteacher, Curriculum, Performance and Student Outcomes

Mrs Dominique Perrang joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2022 as an Economics and Business teacher. This is her seventh year in Malaysia, having previously taught at Repton, where she guided students who achieved the highest score in the world for A-Level Business and the top score in Malaysia for AS Economics and Business. Over her 13 years in education, many of her students have progressed to top universities, including NUS, Stanford and LSE. She has previously served as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Head of Department and Student Services Coordinator, gaining extensive leadership experience in curriculum development, staff mentoring and student achievement. Mrs Perrang holds an Honours degree and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Johannesburg, with her Master’s dissertation focusing on blended learning leadership and support. She has served as a Lead Teacher in gamification, as well as a Lead Teacher and Presenter for the national Ecubed project, cultivating employability and entrepreneurship education. Mrs Perrang also brings extensive experience in intervention strategies, ranging from telematics and district-level initiatives to her current role as Deputy Headteacher, where she leads data-driven systems for monitoring progress, coordinating timely interventions and designing personalised academic pathways. At Epsom, she has reignited WSC and Round Square and spearheaded the first FOBISIA student-led AI conference, reflecting her strong commitment to holistic education and enrichment.

Andrew Thompson

Deputy Headteacher, Teaching, Learning and Standards

Deputy Headteacher for Standards, Mr Andrew Thompson is an enthusiastic educator with a passion for History and Politics, which he brings to life in the classroom. He is committed to developing students’ oracy and debating skills, ensuring they can express themselves confidently in both speech and writing. Since joining Epsom in 2023, Mr Thompson has served as Head of Key Stage and Assistant Headteacher. Previously, he spent ten years at Watford Grammar School for Girls as Head of Department, gaining extensive experience in academic leadership. He has also supported many talented students in securing places at leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. Beyond the classroom, Mr Thompson has led trips to Washington, D.C., Belgium’s First World War battlefields, and UK debating competitions. A graduate of the University of East Anglia, with a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University, he enjoys sports, current affairs and travelling with his family to explore historical sites and diverse cultures.

Eugine Oh

Director of Marketing and Admissions

Mrs Eugine Oh, Director of Marketing and Admissions at Epsom College Malaysia, brings extensive experience from leading international schools in Japan and Korea. Her expertise spans education, marketing and strategic communications across both corporate and academic sectors. Having herself benefited from a boarding school education, Mrs Oh deeply understands both the opportunities and challenges of this transformative journey. This personal experience informs her professional practice, enabling her to connect authentically with families as they navigate important decisions for their children’s futures. Holding a Master of Science in Education from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Linguistics from Emory University, Mrs Oh is committed to nurturing capable and principled young people, offering families a thoughtful and informed admissions experience rooted in excellence, empathy and opportunity.

Sam Prestidge

Head of Sixth Form

Mr Sam Prestidge was primarily educated in the UK, where he obtained a first-class honours degree in Business Economics from the University of Exeter and a PGDE in Geography from Bath Spa University. He also holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the University of Hong Kong. In addition to teaching GCSE and A-Level Geography, Mr Prestidge also teaches A-Level Economics and is a strong believer in cross-curricular collaboration. He uses his passion for the outdoors and the environment to inspire real-world application in the classroom, exploring specialist areas such as sustainable development and investment, aligned with his prior career in finance.

An international senior educator, Mr Amit Damani has an extensive background in teaching and learning, spanning several continents over a distinguished career. With a focus on promoting academic excellence and cross-cultural understanding, he has worked in diverse educational settings across Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. Mr Damani is excited to be part of the leadership team at Epsom, which believes every child should have the opportunity to excel academically, socially, in sport and culturally, within a safe, stimulating and supportive community. Sam Redwood-Loud

Head of Key Stage 3

Mr Sam Redwood-Loud joined Epsom in January 2025 as Head of Academic PE and moved to the role of Head of Key Stage 3 this year. He holds a first-class degree in Sport and Exercise Science and completed his teacher training at the University of Exeter. Mr Redwood-Loud has extensive experience teaching and leading both practical and classroom PE in UK independent boarding schools. He is passionate about sport, leading cricket and badminton since arriving at Epsom, and believes in establishing strong relationships while creating meaningful opportunities and challenges for his students.

Jane Rouson

Head of Prep School

Mrs Jane Rouson is from Sussex in the south of England. After earning a BA in Music and Primary Education from King Alfred’s, Winchester (now Winchester University), she began working at a junior school in her hometown, the largest junior school in West Sussex. During her 15 years teaching at this school, she taught across Key Stage 2, predominantly Year 6. In addition to teaching, Mrs Rouson held the positions of Assessment Leader and Head of ‘Learning to Learn’. Further promotion led to her appointment as Deputy Headteacher, with responsibility for Teaching and Learning, Assessment, Staff Development, and Academic Monitoring. She also held numerous pastoral responsibilities within the school and served as a staff governor for 13 years. Mrs Rouson was also seconded to the local authority to advise on curriculum development, teaching and learning, and mathematics in other schools. She was also a teacher and leader at a prestigious international school in Korea, where she held whole-school leadership responsibilities.

Jenny Garnett

Assistant Headteacher, Wellbeing and Behaviour

Mrs Jennifer Garnett is a highly experienced and successful educator who has worked in boarding schools prior to joining us at Epsom. Her philosophy resonates closely with Epsom’s, she recognises all her students as individuals and values and celebrates this individuality in her lessons. Mrs Garnett considers her subjects of English and Dramatic Arts to be a wonderful combination, as they allow her to be highly creative in her teaching and to use drama skills to support the teaching of the English language. She believes this enables her students to have fun while learning. Mrs Garnett has an infectious enthusiasm for her subjects, and her energy and positivity truly shine through.

Kevin Hill

Assistant Headteacher, EAL Programme

Mr Kevin Hill was educated in England and holds a BA in English Literature from Newcastle University. He began his teaching career in China, working with both early years and adult learners, and developed a love for teaching during his eight years on China’s east coast. He returned to the UK to complete his PGCE in Exeter and continued his teaching practice in Essex and Devon before moving to South Korea. There, he spent eight years teaching senior school English and contributing to the boarding house experience. Mr Hill has now relocated to Malaysia for the first time with his wife and two daughters. His lessons are known for being creative, engaging, and memorable. He aims to inspire all students, from beginner to advanced levels, to develop a love for English and world literature.

Olivia Archibald

Assistant Headteacher, Curriculum

Ms Olivia Archibald has returned to Epsom College Malaysia, having previously taught here from 2018 to 2020. She left Malaysia to teach at Epsom College in the UK, where she taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-Level and IGCSE. Ms Archibald was educated in the UK and holds a First Class Honours degree and a PGCE in Mathematics from University College London. She cares deeply not only about the mathematical success of her students, but also about their general wellbeing and happiness. To maintain her own wellbeing, Ms Archibald represents a Gaelic football team and an Australian football team in Kuala Lumpur. She is a lover of all sports and a particular advocate for girls’ participation in sport.

Daniel Long

Head of Boarding

Before joining Epsom, Mr Daniel Long spent 12 years in South Korea, more specifically on Jeju Island teaching at a British International School. Mr Long has almost 25 years teaching experience, teaching in a number of different countries with South Korea and UK making up the majority of his experience. Mr Long believes that all children have special talents but such talents are not always obvious to the students themselves or to those not involved in education. As an educator he believes in never setting limitations and that hard work and endeavor will always keep one on the path to success. Originally from Ireland, Mr Long completed third level education in the UK, after completing a BSc in Sports Science, he then went on to gain PGCE’s in Sports Science and Physical Education. Some years later he completed a MSc in Performance Coaching at Stirling University. In recent years Mr Long continued to develop his professional practice, completing numerous online courses as well as a Boarding School Association (BSA) diploma.

Kat Coughlin

Carr Housemistress

Mrs Kat Coughlin is the Housemistress of Carr, where she is dedicated to creating a safe, supportive and lively environment for every boy in her care. A qualified midwife by training, she brings with her a wealth of experience in nurturing, guidance and remaining calm under pressure. Combining her professional background with her passion for pastoral care, she is committed to helping students grow in confidence, develop resilience and feel at home in the boarding community.

Masako Takamiya

Carr Assistant Housemistress

Ms Masako Takamiya is our Assistant Housemistress of Carr House, where she builds strong and positive relationships with her students. She is also integral to the close links we maintain with our Japanese families through her role as Japanese Liaison Officer. Ms Takamiya has a strong belief in education and the importance of a holistic approach. She is an excellent role model and ambassador for our school in all that she does. Ms Takamiya is a qualified yoga instructor, and the sessions she runs are equally popular with both staff and students.

Helen Miller

Crawfurd Housemistress

Mrs Helen Miller is Housemistress at Epsom College Malaysia, where she also teaches Physical Education, coordinates educational visits, and serves as Deputy Head of Boarding. She brings extensive experience from over 20 years in the UK independent school sector, followed by an international post at Rugby School Thailand, before joining Epsom in 2022. Through her teaching and leadership, Mrs Miller inspires students to embrace challenge and grow with confidence. She is highly supportive of learning outside the classroom, leading a wide range of trips and co-curricular opportunities that foster independence, resilience, and a spirit of adventure. With a strong passion for pastoral care, she ensures that boarding life is both nurturing and structured, helping students to balance their academic, social, and personal development within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Saraniya Krishnan

Crawfurd Assistant Housemistress

Ms Saraniya C. Krishnan holds a First Class Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Education, specialising in Statistics, and is currently pursuing a fast-track Master’s degree in Statistics. With almost seven years of teaching experience in Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, she began her career in government schools while studying at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and is now embarking on her first role in an international school. An active member of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society since 2014, Ms Saraniya is passionate about service, lifelong learning, and inspiring students to enjoy mathematical problem-solving. She is committed to creating engaging lessons that build confidence and curiosity in the classroom. Outside of school, Ms Saraniya enjoys sports, K-pop, anime, spending quality time with family and friends, and caring for her pets, especially her much-loved dogs.

Harry Hughes

Forest Housemaster

Mr Harry Hughes proudly hails from East London, UK, and joins Epsom College Malaysia this year as a teacher of History and Politics. He studied History at the University of St Andrews, specialising in Islamic and Middle Eastern History, and completed his PGCE at the University of Buckingham. Mr Hughes has spent the past six years teaching in the independent sector in London, including two years as a Boys’ Head of House, during which he earned a Pastoral Leadership Qualification with the HMC. He also brings a wealth of experience from his work with the British Army and Combined Cadet Forces. Passionate about the outdoors, environmentalism, food, travel, and football, Mr Hughes’ greatest joy is inspiring young people to engage with the complexities of History and Politics and helping them develop into future leaders.

Garron Louw

Forest Assistant Housemaster

Originally from South Africa and born in Cape Town, Mr Louw holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Science from the University of Pretoria and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Embury Institute Pretoria (now STADIO Pretoria), specialising in Business Studies. He has taught at Hatfield School in Pretoria and Maragon Mooikloof High School, gaining extensive experience teaching senior Business Studies and supporting students through mentoring and pastoral roles. Beyond the classroom, Mr Louw has actively coached rugby and managed other sports such as hockey, swimming, and football, fostering strong connections between students, staff, and parents. He also contributes to student life by supporting students in the boarding house, encouraging both academic progress and personal growth. A passionate supporter of the Springboks, he enjoys spending quality time with friends and family. Mr Louw is committed to equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive.

Dean Jones

Granville Housemaster

Mr Dean Jones is the Housemaster for Granville House and teaches English as an Additional Language to students in Epsom College Malaysia. Mr Jones has enjoyed a rich and varied career and has worked in countries globally – notably China and Japan. One of his more prominent roles was deputy managing director for a large German multinational company with a chain of English language teaching schools. In addition to an honours degree in Applied Physics, Mr Jones has an iPGCE from the University of Nottingham and a master’s degree in education management from the University of Surrey. Formerly an IELTS examiner, Mr Jones was a member of the Chartered Management Institute and chaired English UK South West, a subsidiary of the organisation that is responsible for the accreditation of English as an Additional Language teaching in the United Kingdom. Mr Jones speaks basic Chinese and enjoys golf and playing the piano.

Matt Murray

Granville Assistant Housemaster

Mr Matt Murray joined Epsom College Malaysia as the Assistant Housemaster for Granville House, where he also teaches Physical Education and contributes to the school’s co-curricular sports programme. He brings with him a passion for developing well-rounded students who thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Mr Murray grew up in the United States and holds a degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Alabama, as well as a U.S. Teaching Credential in both K–12 Physical Education and Secondary English. He has previously served as a Physical Education Teacher, Athletics Director, and Curriculum Coordinator at various international schools across South East Asia, overseeing fixtures, tournaments, and inter-school sports. His coaching experience spans basketball, volleyball, track and field, baseball, and badminton, with notable achievements including leading teams to national championships in Thailand. His teaching philosophy follows a constructivist approach, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning while building resilience, teamwork, and integrity, skills he believes are essential for students to succeed at the next stage of their educational and professional journeys.

Jack Jarvis

Holman Housemaster

Mr Jack Jarvis is the Housemaster of Holman House and a Teacher of PE. He graduated from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand with a BSc in Sports Science. Having been a boarder himself from the age of eight, Mr Jarvis understands the importance of creating a warm, supportive, and structured environment where students feel at home. He is passionate about fostering personal growth, leadership, and a strong sense of community among the boys in his care. Alongside his teaching and pastoral responsibilities, Mr Jarvis has a lifelong passion for sport and fitness. He has played rugby at a high level, representing Bahrain Rugby Club in the West Asia Premiership, and enjoys sharing his experiences to inspire students both on and off the field.

Leo Baloyo

Holman Assistant Housemaster

Having graduated from King’s College London with a BSc in Mathematics, First Class Honours, Mr Leo Baloyo was determined to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in teaching, making a difference to young people’s lives. He completed his PGCE in Mathematics at the same university and taught in an inner London state school for three years before joining Epsom College Malaysia in 2021. Mr Baloyo teaches IGCSE, A-Level Mathematics, and Further Mathematics, and enjoys extending his teaching beyond the classroom through Mathematics clubs and enrichment activities that help prepare students for the STEP paper, which is required by some of the more selective universities. He believes in the power of education, with his father, an inspirational and successful teacher, serving as his role model. Outside school, Mr Baloyo enjoys playing sports such as badminton and volleyball, exploring and visiting different cafés, and cooking a variety of Filipino dishes.

Matthew Richardson

Propert Housemaster

Matt Richardson joined Epsom College in 2022 and is the Housemaster of Propert House, as well as a teacher of Biology. He had originally planned to work in the NHS after university, but a volunteer opportunity abroad led him to discover that his true vocation lay in education. Matt strives to create meaningful learning experiences for his pupils, characterised by enquiry, curiosity, and exploration of the world through questioning, real-world examples, and practical investigations. He hopes that, when they leave school, his students are guided by strong values and a clear sense of who they are and what they can achieve. Outside the classroom, Matt enjoys long-distance cycling, martial arts, and chess.

Azmi bin Azhar

Propert Assistant Housemaster

Mr Azmi joined Epsom in the 2022/23 academic year. With over a decade of teaching experience since 2010, he is committed to inspiring young musicians and fostering a lifelong love of music. He holds a Degree in Music Performance and a Master’s Degree in Music Education, which inform his approach to teaching and developing students’ musical potential. He teaches across KS1 to KS5, working with students from the early years through to A-Level, and supports those preparing for their GCSE and A-Level Music examinations. Passionate about creating enriching learning experiences, Mr Azmi also organises school concerts, giving students opportunities to showcase their talents and develop confidence as performers. He firmly believes that every child has the potential to discover their unique musical voice through creativity, exploration, and performance.

Emily Spivey

Rosebery Housemistress

Mrs Emily Spivey grew up and was educated in South Wales, after which she studied for a BA(Ed) in PE and Geography at the University of Exeter. Following the completion of her degree, she began her journey into boarding and worked at Dauntsey’s School in England. Mrs Spivey’s husband is Australian, and the two of them spent some time working and living in country Victoria. A return to the UK saw Mrs Spivey continue in boarding with positions at Downe House and Sherborne Girls. More recently, she held a position as Housemistress at an international school in South Korea, which gave her vital experience before becoming the Housemistress of Rosebery House. Not only does Mrs Spivey have a passion for pastoral care, but she is also enthusiastic about sport, crafts, and travelling with her family.

Dhannyaa Rao

Rosebery Assistant Housemistress

Ms Dhannyaa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Malaya, ranked 12th in Asia, and brings with her valuable corporate experience from Deloitte in the audit field. Her professional background allows her to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, helping students see the relevance of their studies beyond school. Currently pursuing her iPGCE with the University of East London, she is dedicated to continuous growth and excellence in teaching. Passionate about both academic progress and pastoral care, Ms Dhannyaa is committed to making a meaningful impact in students’ lives. She is recognised for her ability to build strong and supportive relationships with students in a short period, creating an environment where they feel motivated and cared for. These qualities, combined with her energy and dedication, make her an exceptional teacher and a strong fit for the role of Assistant Housemistress.

Hannah Redwood-Loud

Wilson Housemistress

In addition to teaching Biology, Ms Hannah Redwood-Loud is the Housemistress of Wilson House at Epsom College Malaysia. With boarding experience in the UK, Ms Redwood-Loud and her husband moved to Malaysia in January 2025 to open the third girls’ boarding house. She believes in the importance of creating a boarding environment where all students feel able to express themselves. Ms Redwood-Loud is particularly focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle, ensuring students balance their academic, social, and personal growth while fostering friendships, inclusion, and a safe, caring environment for every student.

Indah Iskandar

Wilson Assistant Housemistress

Ms Indah is a Malay as a Foreign Language teacher at Epsom College Malaysia, teaching students from Key Stages 2 to 4. She holds a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in TESL from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, and has been teaching since 2010. She has gained experience in both local and international schools in Malaysia, giving her a broad and well-rounded perspective on education. Ms Indah is passionate about helping students discover the richness of the Malay language and culture. Her teaching encourages confidence and curiosity, while emphasising that language is not only a skill, but also a powerful means of connecting across cultures. Beyond the classroom, she contributes to whole-school initiatives such as Project Thrive and supports student participation in language competitions. In her free time, she enjoys reading, experimenting with new recipes, appreciating good food, and exploring new ways to inspire her classroom practice.

Elizabeth Gerard

Wells Housemistress

A third-generation educator, Ms Elizabeth holds a BA in Psychology and Global Studies and an MEd in Professional Counselling from Monash University Malaysia. She has experience supporting young people and families with diverse learning and emotional needs, and is especially interested in family mental health, neurodiversity, and early intervention. She is a Licensed and Registered Counsellor with the Malaysian Board of Counsellors. Currently serving as a Learning Support Assistant and Assistant Housemistress, Ms Elizabeth is passionate about inclusive education and enjoys the relational aspects of pastoral care. Affectionately known as Ms Liz by students and staff, her approach is student-centred, empathetic, and grounded in evidence-based practice.

Ms Vasantha Ponnen is an experienced teacher and certified trainer with a solid educational background, holding Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Education. With over 16 years of teaching experience, she has successfully implemented pedagogical best practices in schools, enriching her students’ learning experiences. As a passionate teacher, Ms Vasantha firmly believes in holistic learning and student empowerment. She enthusiastically encourages her students, focusing on stimulating critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Her utmost priority is fostering self-confidence and self-belief, ensuring her students thrive both academically and personally. She believes that “Computer Science empowers students to sharpen their thinking and problem-solving abilities, unlocking a world of limitless possibilities.”

Mark Eyton-Jones

After studying Psychology & Sports Science at Northumbria University and completing his PGCE at the University of Leeds, Mr Mark Eyton-Jones taught at an outstanding UK school. Here, he became an accomplished subject leader, KS2 teacher and behaviour management specialist. After teaching for 10 years in a South Korean international school, he developed extensive experience teaching in KS1 & KS2 and rose to the challenge of Head of  Year 4, implementing initiatives to facilitate learning and academic progress. As Head of House, he encouraged unity and belonging. Mr Eyton-Jones is driven by his desire to inspire children to develop their love of learning. A passionate sportsman, Mr Eyton-Jones leads many different sporting activities and competitions in the Prep School. Out of school, when he is not playing football or playing the drums, you might find Mr Eyton-Jones on a trail run through the surrounding countryside.

Cindy Chen

Early Learning Leader

Ms Cindy Chen’s teaching career began in drama education, which laid the foundation for her philosophy of using fun and creative environments to foster a love of learning. In Taiwan, she created an affordable programme for local children to learn English through drama activities, helping many children rediscover their confidence, particularly in performance and public speaking. In 2019, she completed her Master’s in Education and achieved her Early Education Leadership certification with Harvard University this year. From Early Childhood Pedagogical Listening to Designing Curriculum for a Changing World, she engages with a wide range of courses to stay informed and cognitively active. When she is not developing her professional skills, she can be found playing music at events or creating art for special festivals. Her motto in life and at work is to always inspire yourself before attempting to inspire others.

Justine Whitney

English and EAL Leader

Mrs Justine Whitney brings a wealth of experience to her role as Head of English and EAL in the Prep school having qualified as a teacher 26 years ago. She is a Sounds-Write certified phonics practitioner and also holds a TEMC qualification. She graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in History and English before completing a PGCE in Primary Education. Mrs Whitney has worked internationally for over twenty years and joined Epsom after spending 3 years teaching at the prestigious NLCS Jeju.

Ruth Duck

Mathematics and Science Leader

Ms Ruth Duck joins us from Madrid, Spain, where she has experience teaching the British Curriculum from EYFS to KS2. She studied for an MA in Education at the University of Dundee in the UK. After graduating, she taught in Edinburgh before moving to Madrid in 2019. Ms Duck loves learning new languages and can speak Spanish and French. She is keen to learn Malay while in Malaysia. A passionate teacher, she enjoys bringing creativity into the classroom, particularly in teaching maths, and loves seeing when a child has that ‘eureka’ moment in their learning. She is a yoga enthusiast and is qualified to teach children’s yoga. While in Spain, Ms Duck began climbing regularly and is keen to continue this sport in Kuala Lumpur. She is particularly looking forward to exploring different climbing spots in Malaysia.

Matthew Ratcliffe

Curriculum Enrichment and Educational Technology Leader

Mr Matthew Ratcliffe attained a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Nottingham Trent University before completing his PGCE. Prior to joining Epsom, he taught in highly successful schools in the UK and Spain. Mr Ratcliffe ensures engaging and interactive lessons that cater to diverse learning styles. Students under his guidance not only understand the subject matter but also develop a curiosity that extends beyond the classroom. He believes in the power of education and brings a dynamic energy to the classroom that captivates young minds and inspires them to love school and strive to succeed. Beyond the classroom, Mr Ratcliffe enjoys many outdoor pursuits, including hiking, rock climbing, running, swimming, and scuba diving. He hopes to instil in his students a deep respect for the environment and an understanding of its importance through his teaching.

Jenny Zhang

EMIP and Prep Mandarin Leader

Mrs Jenny Hill Zhang is the EMIP and Prep Mandarin Lead, as well as a dedicated prep class teacher. She is a qualified primary teacher, holding certifications in both first and foreign language Mandarin instruction. Originally from China, at the foot of the Great Wall, Mrs Zhang earned her BA from Hebei Normal University. With over 15 years of experience in international schools across China, Korea, and the UK, she has honed a kindhearted, creative, and inspiring teaching style. In addition to her expertise in Mandarin instruction, Mrs Zhang has significant experience in EAL (English as an Additional Language) teaching, further supporting her commitment to fostering language acquisition across diverse settings. Karen Selva

Year 5 Teacher

Ms Karen Selva joined Epsom as a Prep School class teacher, bringing with her a wealth of international teaching experience. A graduate of the University of Roehampton, London, Ms Selva has taught at Cairo English School in Egypt and delivered the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum in schools across Qatar and Malaysia. Her global experience has shaped her dynamic teaching style and her ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds. Beyond the classroom, Ms Selva is a keen sports enthusiast who enjoys badminton, climbing, and hiking. She is also a passionate advocate for environmental protection and is deeply committed to instilling a sense of responsibility and sustainability in her students. As the teacher in charge of the Prep School Eco Committee, she drives initiatives that foster a more eco-conscious future.

Ms Tara Roy has been involved in education since the age of 18. She holds a Diploma in International Baccalaureate from Jakarta International School, a degree in Psychology from UCSI University in Malaysia, a residential degree in Philosophy from the Vedanta Academy in India, and an iPGCE from the University of East London. She has taught in various daycares across Malaysia and began her career in international schooling in 2017. Ms Roy has been a member of the teaching staff at Epsom since 2022. She enjoys studying Philosophy, going to the gym, and spending quality time with her family.

Marissa Chin

Year 3 Teacher

Ms Marissa Chin is a dedicated teacher with extensive experience in education and leadership. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Buckingham. With over a decade in teaching, Ms Chin excels in fostering strong relationships with students and parents, leading professional development, and driving student success. In her previous role as Teaching and Learning Lead, she effectively implemented advanced strategies such as Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction and supported her colleagues through coaching. Outside of work, Ms Chin enjoys spending quality time with her family, especially her children. She is passionate about travelling, discovering new cultures, and trying diverse cuisines. Additionally, she loves art, particularly watercolour painting and calligraphy, which reflect her creative spirit and appreciation for beauty.

Alicia van Dijk

Year 1 & 2 Teacher (EMIP) English

Ms Alicia is an experienced and dedicated primary teacher with a strong passion for fostering a love of learning. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology and has completed a PGCE, through which she gained a deeper understanding of child development and effective teaching methodologies. Committed to lifelong learning, she continues to pursue additional professional certifications to ensure she creates an inclusive and supportive environment for all her students. Ms Alicia strives to cultivate a classroom where students feel encouraged to explore, inquire and share their thoughts with confidence. At the heart of her teaching philosophy are the words of Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This belief fuels her determination to make a lasting and positive impact on every child who enters her classroom. Liang Hui Ho

Year 5 Class Teacher (EMIP) Mandarin, Enquiry and PSHE

Ms Ho Liang Hui is a native Mandarin speaker from Taiwan and brings over 20 years’ teaching experience to her position. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Study from the International College of Chinese Studies, Shanghai Normal University and a Master’s in Chinese Studies from New Era University College. She also holds a Montessori Certificate in Early Childhood from Segi College. Ms Ho Liang Hui enjoys an infectious enthusiasm for and devotion to teaching and introducing Mandarin to her students – she aspires for them to enjoy the learning process. Beyond her teaching, Ms Ho Liang Hui enjoys watching Traditional Chinese Opera – Xiqu – as well as trying out different baking recipes. She also loves spending time with her dogs during her leisure time.

Leo Baloyo

Head of Mathematics

Having graduated from King’s College London with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with First Class Honours, Mr Leo Baloyo was determined to follow in the footsteps of his father by pursuing a career in teaching and making a positive difference in young people’s lives. He completed his PGCE in Mathematics at the same institution and taught in an inner London state school for three years before moving to Epsom College Malaysia in 2021. Mr Leo teaches IGCSE, A- Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and enjoys extending his teaching beyond the classroom through mathematics clubs and enrichment activities. These initiatives help to prepare students for the STEP examination, which is required by some of the most selective universities. A strong believer in the power of education, Mr Leo cites his father, an inspirational and successful teacher as his role model. Outside of school, he enjoys playing sports such as badminton and volleyball, exploring and visiting different cafés, and cooking a variety of Filipino dishes.

Olivia Archibald

Mathematics Teacher and Assistant Headteacher, Curriculum

Ms Olivia Archibald has returned to Epsom College Malaysia, having taught here during 2018-2020. She left Malaysia to teach at Epsom College in the UK, where she taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics A-Level and IGCSE. Ms Archibald was educated in the UK; she has a First Class Honours degree and a PGCE in Mathematics from University College London. Ms Archibald cares deeply not only about the mathematical success of her students, but also their general wellbeing and happiness. To maintain her own wellbeing, Ms Archibald represents a Gaelic football team and an Australian football team in KL. She is a lover of all sports and an advocate in particular for girls’ participation in sports.

Arafath Ali

Mathematics Teacher

Mr Arafath is a Mathematics teacher currently teaching IGCSE and A-Level Mathematics, including Further Mathematics. He has always had a strong passion for Mathematics and began his teaching journey earlier than most, providing tuition to his peers in Years 8 and 9. This early experience led him to work as a teaching assistant in his second year at university, alongside his studies in Aerospace Engineering. Mr Arafath went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering (Hons) and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Although he did not initially set out to become a teacher, he soon realised that education was his true vocation. His love for teaching, which he regards as a noble profession, continued to grow as he witnessed his students develop and succeed together. The challenge of problem-solving has always been central to his passion for Mathematics. Following the completion of his Master’s degree, Mr Arafath pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Education to become a qualified teacher. Prior to joining Epsom College Malaysia, he worked as Head of Department for both Mathematics and ICT, teaching IGCSE and A-Level Mathematics. Under his guidance, students participated in international competitions, winning numerous awards and achieving outstanding IGCSE results. Outside the classroom, Mr Arafath is a keen sportsman and enjoys taking part in many of the sports offered at Epsom, particularly badminton, volleyball and cricket.

Michelle Brown

Mathematics Teacher

Mrs Michelle Brown has been a teacher for over twenty years, having graduated from the University of Surrey with a Bachelor of Science in Linguistics and International Relations. She went on to gain a PGCE from the University of East Anglia and has taught a wide range of subjects, including French and Mathematics, in England, the United Arab Emirates and China, before arriving in Malaysia. Mrs Michelle enjoys the variety and challenges she encounters each day in the classroom and works hard to ensure every student feels noticed and valued. Outside of school, she enjoys sport, reading and long walks with her dog.

Gloria Chiu

Mathematics Teacher

Ms Gloria Chiu holds a Master of Education in Leadership and Management from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. With thirteen years of teaching experience, including six years teaching Mathematics to students in Years 6 to 12, she has successfully coached students for prestigious competitions such as the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) and the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO). Since beginning her teaching career in 2010, Ms Gloria has obtained a teaching licence in Hawaii in 2021 and in the District of Columbia in 2023. She is a strong advocate of a growth mindset and reflective learning, believing that Mathematics is a powerful means of cultivating resilience in students. Ms Gloria encourages her students to view mistakes as valuable opportunities for growth and emphasises that taking risks is an essential part of the learning process.

Sumaya Jackson Hussain

Mathematics Teacher

Ms Sumaya is a dedicated and passionate Mathematics teacher, with a strong determination to ensure that no student is left behind. Having graduated with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Sussex, she worked in industry in London for five years before completing her PGCE at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. She has since taught in the UK for fourteen years, taking on a range of pastoral and curriculum leadership roles within sixth form provision, teaching and learning. Ms Sumaya has taught students of all ages and abilities across the secondary sector and has celebrated thirteen years of strong GCSE and A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics results.

Jack Wallace

Mathematics Teacher

Mr Wallace joined ECM from St John’s School, Leatherhead, having previously taught at Epsom College UK for a number of years. A passionate Mathematics teacher and strong advocate of the UKMT Mathematical Challenges, Mr Wallace encourages all students to develop a deep conceptual understanding of the mathematical techniques they are taught. After graduating with a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, Mr Wallace began his career in the metals and mining sector, where he advised clients on market strategy and analysis. He later transitioned into education, bringing real-world problem-solving and analytical thinking into the classroom. Outside the classroom, Mr Wallace is a keen sportsman, having received junior county honours in both cricket and squash. He is also an avid golfer and enjoys unwinding by watching his beloved Tottenham Hotspur (preferably when they win!). Mr Wallace joins ECM with his wife, Sumaya, and their six-year-old son, Huw.

Simon Downes

Mathematics Teacher

Mr Simon Downes is in his 30th year of teaching, bringing a wealth of experience to his role. He trained at the University of Nottingham and spent 22 years working in secondary state schools in the UK, primarily in Hampshire. During this time, he held a range of leadership positions, including Head of Department, Assistant Head, and Lead Teacher. For the past seven years, Mr Downes served as Head of Mathematics at the Junior School of NLCS Jeju in South Korea. He is delighted to join Epsom College Malaysia as a Mathematics teacher, a role that allows him to focus fully on working with students, which is the aspect of teaching he enjoys most. Mr Downes has a son, Thomas, while his wife and two daughters are currently in the UK completing their studies. In his spare time, he enjoys road cycling, cooking, and DJing at parties, where he can often be found behind the decks playing music.

Yee Siew Chin

Mathematics Teacher

Ms Yee Siew is a dedicated educator with over 18 years of teaching experience, specialising in IGCSE Mathematics and Additional Mathematics for students in Years 7 to 11. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Materials Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a PGCE from the University of Nottingham Malaysia. Ms Siew began her professional career in the semiconductor industry, but soon discovered her passion for education. She finds great fulfilment in helping students develop a deep understanding of Mathematics, while fostering both confidence and enjoyment in the subject. Her teaching philosophy centres on clear explanations, personalised support, and the creation of a positive and inclusive learning environment. Outside the classroom, Ms Siew enjoys hiking, connecting with nature, and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Marko Bogdanov

Mathematics and Computer Science Teacher

Mr Marko Bogdanov is a Mathematics and Computer Science Teacher at Epsom College Malaysia. He has taught students from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 in China, Myanmar, and Malaysia, delivering Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level courses, alongside earlier experience teaching AP Calculus and Statistics. Mr Bogdanov’s classroom practice emphasises clear modelling, adaptive practice, and data-informed feedback, supporting students to become confident problem-solvers, particularly those with English as an Additional Language (EAL). He contributes actively to curriculum design and assessment tracking, and his students include an accelerated IGCSE candidate who achieved a score of 98%. Mr Bogdanov holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE from the University of Sunderland (UK), as well as an MSc in Information Systems from the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany).

Julia Martinez

Head of Science

Having always had a love for the natural world, Mrs Martinez studied Microbiology at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, where she graduated with a First Class Honours degree. She then undertook scientific research at the University of Aberdeen, during which time she discovered her passion for teaching through the University’s outreach programme. In 2006, Mrs Martinez completed a PGDE in Biology at the University of Edinburgh and began her teaching career in Scotland. She later relocated to London, Uganda, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic, gaining extensive international experience before joining Epsom College Malaysia as Head of Biology and Assistant Housemistress of Crawfurd House. Mrs Martinez is currently furthering her professional development by studying for an MSc in International Education at the University of St Andrews. Her commitment to lifelong learning, extensive experience in teaching Biology, and passion for supporting students enable her to provide Epsom students with a high-quality educational experience, alongside the pastoral care needed to thrive in a boarding environment.

Ellen Crann

Head of Key Stage 3 Science

Mrs Ellen Crann holds a BSc (Hons) in Life Sciences and a PGCE from the University of Bristol. She is passionate about Science education and inspiring young people to develop a lifelong interest in STEM subjects. Mrs Crann has taught in a range of schools in Gloucestershire, UK, and now brings her experience and enthusiasm to the international school community. Prior to beginning her teaching career, Mrs Crann worked in Southern Africa as a safari field guide, combining her interests in wildlife research and conservation with hands-on field experience. Some of her most memorable experiences include collecting samples from elephants for artificial insemination programmes and assisting with rhino dehorning projects aimed at reducing poaching. Mrs Crann has travelled widely, often with a strong focus on the natural world. Outside the classroom, she enjoys caring for animals, cooking, and gardening. She hopes to inspire her students to balance academic achievement with the exploration of interests beyond the classroom that nurture their passions and prepare them for the future.

Matthew Richardson

Biology Teacher and Propert Housemaster

Matt Richardson joined Epsom College in 2022 and is the Housemaster of Propert House, as well as a teacher of Biology. Matt had originally planned to work in the NHS after university, but a volunteer opportunity abroad led him to discover that his true vocation lay in education. Matt strives to create meaningful learning experiences for his students, characterised by enquiry, curiosity, and exploration of the world through questioning, real-world examples, and practical investigations. He hopes that when they leave school, his students are guided by strong values and a clear sense of who they are and what they can achieve. Outside the classroom, Matt enjoys long-distance cycling, martial arts, and chess.

Loganantini Paramasivam

Biology Teacher

Ms Loganantini Paramasivam graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology, achieving First Class Honours, and is currently pursuing an iPGCE at the University of East London. Before transitioning into education, she worked in research laboratories, gaining valuable hands-on experience in biotechnology and further deepening her scientific knowledge and practical expertise. Her eight-year teaching career has been distinguished by a strong commitment to fostering student engagement and promoting academic excellence. Ms Loganantini’s dual background in research and education enables her to bring a unique perspective to the classroom, blending practical scientific insights with sound educational theory. She is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of scientists and critical thinkers, making a meaningful contribution to the academic community. Outside of her professional life, Ms Loganantini enjoys maintaining her fitness regime, travelling and spending time with her family.

Hannah Redwood-Loud

Biology Teacher and Wilson Housemistress

Hannah joined the Epsom community in January 2025 as Teacher of Biology and HMM of Wilson House. With a range of experiences across the sciences in both state and private education in the UK, Hannah has experience of GCSE, A-Level, BTEC and IB Biology. She initially qualified with a 1st class degree in Physiotherapy, but soon realised her passion for teaching. She later completed her teacher training at the University of Exeter and has not looked back. In the classroom, Hannah‘s focus is on providing a holistic education, with strong relationships and a good class atmosphere at the forefront of all lessons. Outside of the classroom, Hannah enjoys playing hockey and going to the gym.   

Mahesh Warrier

Head of Chemistry

Mr Mahesh Warrier holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry, in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Prior to joining Epsom, he taught IBDP and IGCSE Chemistry at some of the most prestigious international schools in Asia. He has successfully led both Science and Chemistry Departments and has served as Head of  Year for Years 10 and 11. Mr Mahesh strongly believes in fostering and nurturing qualities such as a passion for hard work, resilience and academic honesty in his students. As a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, he ensures his knowledge remains up to date with the latest innovations in the field and strives to encourage and support his students in achieving success in international competitions and examinations that fully challenge their abilities. Subash Loganathan

Mr Subaash Loganathan is an enthusiastic, positive, and approachable member of our staff. He values education and is passionate about learning, serving as an excellent role model for his students. He joined Epsom from INSPIROS International School, where he was Head of the Science Department and also supported the Mathematics department. He previously taught at INTI International College (Subang) and brings 15 years of experience teaching A-Level courses. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr Loganathan has extensive experience in leading Science departments and formalising data-setting and assessments. He brings this expertise to his role in the Science portfolio at Epsom College Malaysia.

Mugilan Rajendran

Mr Mugilan is an experienced Chemistry teacher with a strong background in O-Level, IGCSE, and A-Level curricula. He holds a BSc (Hons) and a Research Master’s in Chemistry, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning. With over seven years of teaching experience in international schools across Malaysia and Indonesia, he has also held leadership roles as CCA Coordinator, ICAS Exam Coordinator, and Graduation Chairperson. Mr Mugilan is passionate about inspiring students through engaging, supportive, and inquiry-based learning.

Farah Khan

Ms Farah brings a wealth of international experience and a passion for Science to our school community. She studied Chemistry at University College London (UCL) and completed her PGCE at Brunel University, establishing a strong academic foundation for her teaching career. With over nine years of teaching experience in the UAE, across both government and independent schools, and prior experience in the UK, she brings a global perspective to the classroom. Ms Farah is highly skilled at connecting with students, creating engaging lessons, and fostering curiosity, making her a valued member of our Science department. A lifelong learner and effective communicator, she speaks three languages and uses this ability to build meaningful relationships with students from diverse backgrounds. Outside the classroom, she enjoys travelling with her family to exotic destinations, exploring local cuisines, shopping, and staying active at the gym.

Mohammed Kattan

Head of Physics

Mr Kattan, an accomplished graduate of Ain Shams University in Egypt, holds a bachelor’s degree in science and education, achieved with honors in 2009. With a strong educational foundation instilled by his family, he embarked on his teaching journey, specializing in IGCSE and A-Level. A transformative moment occurred in 2014 when he earned a physics diploma, ranking second, sparking his passion for teaching in countries like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE. With 14 years of teaching experience, Mr Kattan excels in IGCSE, A-Level, SAT 2, IB, and AP subjects. He adapted to pandemic challenges by creating a YouTube channel, offering tailored physics tutorials for IGCSE and A-Level students. Beyond academics, he enjoys football and chess. As an international educator, Mr Kattan is eager to share his expertise and provide a captivating educational experience. His goal is to nurture students’ growth, enhancing not only their academic skills but also their broader worldview through his theory of knowledge.

Sharubini Thirupathy

Ms Sharubini Thirupathy is a seasoned Physics educator with ten years of experience in the field of education. Her passion for pushing the boundaries of knowledge extends to mentoring aspiring physicists. She holds an Engineering degree in Biomedical Engineering, specialising in medical equipment. Ms Sharubini is guided by a teaching philosophy centred on fostering critical thinking and scientific curiosity. Outside the classroom, she is an enthusiastic baker and a keen music lover, with a growing interest in photography. Together with her students, Ms Sharubini believes in exploring the cosmos, one equation at a time.

Joseph Ooi

Physics Teacher

Dr Joseph Ooi comes from a family of educators: his father is a retired secondary school principal, his mother a retired sixth-form teacher, and his brother a college lecturer. He recently completed his PhD in Physics at Universiti Sains Malaysia and obtained his iPGCE with TES, having previously graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences. Dr Ooi enjoys both the theoretical and experimental aspects of Physics, as well as the application of computational techniques to understand and solve complex problems. He is passionate about helping students develop an appreciation for Physics and is well known for incorporating light-hearted (and deliberately bad) Physics memes into his lessons to enhance engagement. Outside the classroom, Dr Ooi plays badminton competitively and enjoys photography. Through his vocation as a teacher, he hopes to make a positive difference and be a blessing to those around him.

Benjamin Jacques-Parr

Mr Jacques-Parr graduated from the University of Sussex with a Master’s degree in Physics in 2011. He completed his PGCE at the University of Reading in 2017 and has taught Physics in both UK and Japanese international schools.

Raihaan Chaudary

Head of Digital Learning and Computer Science Teacher

Mr Chaudary holds a BSc in Business Information Systems, along with a PGCE and an MA in Gifted Education from Brunel University, London. With over a decade of experience teaching ICT and Computer Science across a wide range of educational settings, from Key Stages 1 to 5, his most recent role was at an independent school in London, where he served as Head of Computer Science and Head of Digital Learning. This is Mr Chaudary’s first role outside the UK. He is passionate about inspiring students to explore the digital world and empowering them to harness technology while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Mr Chaudary aims to create an inclusive and dynamic classroom where students feel confident to innovate and apply their learning to real-world challenges. Outside the classroom, he enjoys travelling, exploring new cities and countries, meeting people and immersing himself in different cultures. He also enjoys playing football and pushing his limits through adrenaline-fuelled activities such as bungee jumping and paragliding.

Marko Bogdanov

Computer Science and Mathematics Teacher

Mr Marko Bogdanov is a Computer Science and Mathematics Teacher at Epsom College Malaysia. He has taught students from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 in China, Myanmar, and Malaysia, delivering Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level courses, alongside earlier experience teaching AP Calculus and Statistics. Mr Bogdanov’s classroom practice emphasises clear modelling, adaptive practice, and data-informed feedback, supporting students to become confident problem-solvers, particularly those with English as an Additional Language (EAL). He contributes actively to curriculum design and assessment tracking, and his students include an accelerated IGCSE candidate who achieved a score of 98%. Mr Bogdanov holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE from the University of Sunderland (UK), as well as an MSc in Information Systems from the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany).

Anna Macleod

Ms Anna Macleod graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a 1st Class Honours degree in French and Spanish. During her studies, she volunteered with charities and community groups in Glasgow. These experiences inspired her to pursue teaching as a meaningful way of helping young people broaden their horizons and achieve their goals. Ms Macleod joined the Teach First programme in 2019 and obtained a PGDE with Distinction in Education Leadership in Learning from Northumbria University. Before joining Epsom College Malaysia, Ms Macleod taught Modern Foreign Languages at Dyke House Academy in England. At Epsom College Malaysia, she has embraced a range of roles including Teacher of French & Spanish, Head of Department and Head of EPQ. Now Head of University Counselling, Ms Macleod is dedicated to ensuring students and their families have access to excellent guidance and are well-suppored in making decisions about future study and career pathways.

Kate Carden-Brown

Mrs Catherine Carden-Brown graduated from the University of Wales with a First Class Honours degree in French and Welsh. Prior to joining Epsom College Malaysia in 2018, she held senior leadership roles in the UK, first as Head of Languages and later as Head of Sixth Form, where she led university application support. Under her guidance, students secured places at leading universities each year, and the school was selected to participate in a project supporting other schools with Oxbridge applications. At Epsom College Malaysia, Mrs Carden-Brown served as Director of Admissions and Higher Education, working closely with students and families to provide expert guidance on applications to universities worldwide. With over 27 years of experience in higher education support, she has an outstanding track record of helping students gain entry to prestigious institutions across the globe. Now based in the UK, she continues to support Epsom students online, advising on university applications and academic enrichment to help them develop strong, competitive profiles and achieve their goals.

Georgina Prestidge

Mrs Georgie joined Epsom College Malaysia from its prestigious sister school in the UK in 2023. She holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Exeter and a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University, and brings 12 years of experience in both British and international education. She believes that English has the power to cultivate collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, while nurturing emotional intelligence and empathy. This philosophy underpins her leadership of the English Department, ensuring that students develop the skills needed to thrive in society. Having attended boarding school herself, Mrs Georgie appreciates the joy of growing up in a vibrant, academically rigorous environment that also encourages the pursuit of interests beyond the classroom. Nourah Elkemary

Associate Head of Key Stage 4 and English Teacher

Ms Nourah brings over 12 years of international teaching experience to Epsom College Malaysia. Originally from the small town of Waihi in New Zealand, she earned her BA in English from the University of Otago and later completed a Master of Education at Massey University in Wellington. Her passion for English and literature drives her commitment to nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning in her students. Outside the classroom, Ms Nourah enjoys walking, particularly in the cooler months, and finds joy in playing the guitar, singing, and immersing herself in a good book. She also loves swimming and surfing when back home in New Zealand, and most of all, she cherishes spending time with her family.

Zena Dai

Second in EAL and Curriculum Lead for British Summer School

Ms Zena has been teaching at Epsom since 2022, having previously taught the English national curriculum across KS1 and KS2 in London. She holds a BA (Hons) and PGCE from UCL along with a TEFL certificate; and is currently pursuing a Masters in Education at UCL. Ms Zena is committed to young people’s education and believes in every child’s ability to succeed and fulfil their highest potential; and has volunteered in English language programmes across Europe and SE Asia, helping students of all ages build confidence, fluency, and language skills. Since 2019, Ms Zena has contributed to academic and pastoral initiatives at British Summer Schools and prior to education, was a performing rights’ agent for UK theatre. She is currently Second in EAL, teaching KS3 EAL and Humanities and Cambridge International Education ESL at KS4. Ms Zena enjoys the arts, culture and travel; and benefits from a British and American upbringing with Korean heritage.

Dean Jones

EAL Teacher and Granville Housemaster

Mr Dean Jones is the Housemaster of Granville House and teaches English as an Additional Language. He has enjoyed a rich and varied career, having worked internationally, notably in China and Japan. One of his most prominent roles was as Deputy Managing Director for a large German multinational company operating a global network of English language teaching schools. In addition to an honours degree in Applied Physics, Mr Jones holds an iPGCE and a Master’s degree in Education Management, and is currently studying for a doctorate in Emerging Technologies in Education. Formerly an IELTS examiner, Mr Jones was also a member of the Chartered Management Institute and chaired English UK South West, a regional body of the organisation responsible for the accreditation of English as an Additional Language teaching in the United Kingdom. Mr Jones speaks some Chinese and, outside of school, enjoys sailing and the occasional round of golf.

Tishalani Puvanasan

Mrs Tisha has taught across both the IB and British curricula, gaining extensive experience in international education. She began her career at a well-established IB school in Kuala Lumpur, where she designed active learning strategies, developed assessment materials, and served as a year-group team leader, supporting colleagues. She later joined Epsom Prep School as an EAL teacher, working with students from diverse backgrounds, including those with additional needs. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student learns differently, and she is committed to creating inclusive learning environments that foster confidence and personal growth. Mrs Tisha aspires to bridge the EAL gap in schools by building students’ confidence and ensuring they have access to the same opportunities as their peers. Ms Bea holds a BA in Education with a specialism in Special Educational Needs. Before joining the EAL department, she taught students in the Philippines, Japan, Kuwait, and Cambodia, where she designed dynamic and inclusive lessons that fostered curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Ms Bea believes that every child brings a unique set of experiences, talents, and perspectives to the classroom and is a strong advocate for ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. In her free time, Ms Bea enjoys the peace and quiet of the great outdoors and has spent many nights camping under the stars across Europe and Asia. Adriana Falisha

Ms Adriana joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2015 as a Teaching Assistant in the Prep School. She later transitioned to the Senior School, where she continued her role as a Teaching Assistant before joining the EAL (English as an Additional Language) department. Ms Adriana has been teaching the Cambridge International iGCSE EAL curriculum and pursuing her PGCE with the University of Nottingham in Malaysia.

Adrienna Gomez Spencer

Ms Adrienna Gomez Spencer is a Malaysian educator with over 16 years of teaching experience in international schools across Malaysia and Hong Kong. She has taught across Early Years, Primary, and English as an Additional Language (EAL), and is passionate about helping children build confidence and reach their full potential. Ms Adrienna has taught a wide range of subjects at primary level and has previously held leadership roles, including Head of Primary English and Whole-School Art, reflecting her breadth of experience and commitment to education. She holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and is a recently qualified Apple Learning Coach. This qualification has further strengthened her interest in delivering engaging and interactive lessons that blend creativity with technology, bringing learning to life for every student. Prior to joining Epsom, Mr Arif Iman began his teaching career at a private international school in Damansara, where he taught First Language English to students at KS3 and KS4 level. During his time there, he not only honed his classroom practice but also developed a passion for guiding students beyond the curriculum. He became actively involved in academic enrichment programmes and international competitions, including the World Scholar’s Cup, English Without Borders, and the Eurasian Spelling Bee, where he mentored students to broaden their skills in critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

Mr Shaun joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2021, bringing with him almost 20 years of experience in education. He studied in South Africa and obtained his PGCE from the University of South Africa (UNISA). The majority of his career was spent at an independent school in South Africa, where he gained extensive experience teaching senior school students and had the privilege of leading the Prep School. This leadership role enabled him to develop strong leadership skills while gaining a deeper understanding of how best to support pupils at different stages of their educational journey. Mr Shaun is passionate about education and is deeply committed to helping young people realise their full potential. He strongly believes in guiding students to build confidence, resilience, and a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. Sooi Yu Ting

EAL Teacher

Ms Sooi joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2024 and currently teaches English as an Additional Language (EAL), as well as Year 9 English. In addition, she serves as a Resident Tutor in Wilson House. Ms Sooi holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Literature from Taiwan, followed by a Master of Education in English as a Second Language from the University of Malaya. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the University of Malaya. Since beginning her teaching career in 2019, Ms Sooi has gained experience teaching English across a range of settings and has specialised in supporting EAL learners in international schools since 2022. She strongly believes that every step forward in learning, no matter how big or small, deserves recognition, and she strives to help students feel confident and proud of their progress.

Hannah Tan Hui Feng

Ms Hannah studied at Universiti Sains Malaysia where she graduated with a degree in Education (TESOL). She also spent a semester on exchange at the University of Technology Sydney, which gave her some early international teaching experience. She has taught English in both local and international schools, including coordinating an Additional Support Programme in English and Science. She is passionate about creating supportive classrooms, with intentional feedback and practice at the heart of her teaching. Outside of lessons, Ms Hannah is a certified lifeguard and takes part in various sports activities. She also enjoys music, reading, and visiting new places. She values spending time with students in different settings and believes that community and personal growth are just as valuable as academic progress.

Mrs Michelle Brown has been a teacher for over twenty years, having graduated from the University of Surrey with a Bachelor of Science in Linguistics and International Relations. She holds a Master’s degree in Malay Language Education, a Diploma in Teaching, and a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language and Civilisation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She has many years of experience teaching students from primary to secondary level in international schools in Malaysia. Ms Suhada specialises in IGCSE Malay as a Foreign Language, IGCSE First Language Malay, and Bahasa Melayu SPM, and has guided many students to achieve excellent results. She is known for her positive teaching approach, clear communication, and strong dedication to each student’s success. In her free time, she enjoys cooking new recipes and travelling.

Peng Yuanzhen

Originally from China, Ms Peng holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Foreigners. She is currently pursuing an additional Master’s degree in Inclusion and Special Education. Since joining the school in 2016, Ms Peng has taught Mandarin to both Prep and Senior School students, with her current focus on the Senior School. With extensive international teaching experience in China, the Philippines, and Malaysia, she effectively supports students in achieving excellent results in IGCSE, A-Level, and HSK examinations. Ms Peng is also committed to enriching students’ learning beyond the classroom, coaching them to outstanding success in annual events such as the AIMS Language Competition, the Writing Competition, and the Chinese Bridge Competition. She is dedicated to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment for all her students.

Claire Fong

Mandarin Teacher

Ms Claire Fong completed her BA in Chinese Studies at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia, and her MA in Ancient Chinese Literature at Fudan University in Shanghai. With over ten years of experience teaching Mandarin Chinese in international schools delivering the British curriculum, she has continually refined her expertise and holds the CTCSOL qualification. Ms Fong also serves as a Cambridge Assistant Examiner for Mandarin Chinese as a Foreign Language, Second Language, First Language, and A-Level with Cambridge Assessment International Education. In addition, she is a long-standing committee member of the Malaysian Sinology Association, contributing to research and collaboration within the field. Chen Nyoke Li

Ms Nyoke Li brings 16 years of valuable experience teaching in international schools, specialising in Mandarin as a Foreign Language. She holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Malaya. Before joining Epsom, she taught Mandarin for a decade in an international school in Semenyih, where she worked to strengthen students’ language skills while deepening their appreciation of Chinese culture. Originally from Canada, Mrs Chantal completed a Bachelor of Arts in History at York University before moving to the United Kingdom to attend Canterbury Christ Church University, where she earned a PGCE in Secondary History. Mrs Chantal is an enthusiastic History teacher with extensive experience across a range of schools in the UK. Her teaching is rooted in mutual respect and high expectations, emphasising effort, honesty, and resilience. Students are at the heart of all she does, and she strives to build their confidence, encourage them to take risks, and foster a genuine love of learning. A true history enthusiast, she enjoys visiting historic sites and travelling with her young family. Her particular interests include post-colonial, social, and ‘hidden’ histories, as well as the Cold War.

Andrew Thompson

Deputy Headteacher (Teaching, Learning and Standards), Mr Andrew is an enthusiastic educator with a deep passion for History and Politics, which he brings to life in every lesson. He is dedicated to developing students’ oracy and debating skills, ensuring they can express themselves confidently both orally and in writing. An experienced Head of Department, Mr Andrew spent ten years at Watford Grammar School for Girls, where he oversaw academic progress and support at KS4. He also has a strong track record in guiding talented students through successful applications to top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. Mr Andrew has organised a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including trips to Washington D.C., Belgium’s First World War battlefields, and UK debating competitions. A graduate of the University of East Anglia with a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University, he enjoys sports, current affairs, and travelling with his family to historical locations, embracing different cultures and cuisines along the way.

With nearly two decades of experience as a teacher and academic leader in the UK and internationally, Mr Jonathan has held senior positions at some of the UK’s most respected schools. He was Deputy Head (Academic) at Fettes College in Edinburgh, leading IGCSE, IB Diploma, and A-Level programmes. Prior to that, he was Head of Sixth Form at Cheltenham Ladies’ College, empowering students to excel at top universities worldwide. Mr Jonathan has also worked internationally, including consulting on new schools in The Bahamas and teaching in Japan. He is passionate about creating the right conditions for every student to thrive academically and personally at Epsom.

Harry Hughes

History & Politics Teacher and Forest Housemaster

Mr Harry Hughes is from East London, UK, and joins Epsom College Malaysia this year as a teacher of History and Politics. He studied History at the University of St Andrews, specialising in Islamic and Middle Eastern History, and completed his PGCE at the University of Buckingham. Mr Hughes has spent the past six years teaching in the independent sector in London, including two years as a Boys’ Head of House, during which he earned a Pastoral Leadership Qualification with the HMC. He also brings valuable experience from his work with the British Army and Combined Cadet Forces. Passionate about the outdoors, environmentalism, food, travel, and football, Mr Hughes takes great joy in inspiring young people to engage with the complexities of History and Politics and helping them develop into future leaders.

Starting his career in the independent sector, Mr Walmsley oversaw the expansion of the Politics department to the younger years of the School, before moving into the state sector as Head of Politics. Passionate about international relations, film and vinyl records, Mr Walmsley’s greatest joy is inspiring young people to engage with politics and equipping them with the tools to become critical and independent thinkers.

Dr Mumtaz Rabbani specialises in Medical Tourism, with teaching and research expertise in Tourism, Socio-Cultural History, and Geography. Starting her career as a lecturer’s assistant, teacher, and research scholar, with 9 years of experience, of an approachable learning environment focused on student progress and long-term success, intense love for calligraphy and hand lettering outside the classroom.

Sam Prestidge

Geography Teacher and Head of Sixth Form

Mr Sam Prestidge was primarily educated in the UK, where he obtained a First-Class Honours degree in Business Economics from the University of Exeter and a PGDE in Geography from Bath Spa University. He also holds an MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Hong Kong. In addition to teaching GCSE and A-Level Geography, Mr Prestidge teaches A-Level Economics and is a strong advocate of cross-curricular collaboration. He uses his passion for the outdoors and the environment to inspire real-world applications in the classroom, exploring specialist areas such as sustainable development and investment, informed by his previous career in finance.

Katherine Fowler

Geography Teacher and Deputy Headteacher, Pastoral Care & Students Wellbeing

Mrs Kate Fowler has extensive experience working in boarding schools in both the UK and internationally as a pastoral leader. She has served as a House Parent at Cranbrook School in the UK and at North London Collegiate School in South Korea, and has also held the role of Head of Year. She believes that schools should provide a safe environment in which students can fulfil their potential, offer a wide range of opportunities, and promote the development of key skills for future success. Mrs Fowler is a strong advocate for developing wellbeing and leadership opportunities for students. Mrs Fowler has over 20 years’ experience teaching Geography and has led highly successful Geography departments in both the UK and internationally. She is passionate about her subject and passes this enthusiasm on to her students. Mrs Fowler is also a keen sports enthusiast who enjoys running and cycling, and has previously coached athletics and hockey.

Jack Coughlin

Mr Jack Coughlin developed his passion for teaching and learning while completing his PGCE at the University of Birmingham, after studying Geography at Coventry University. He is now part of the Academic team, leading teaching and learning across the school with a focus on helping every student achieve their best. Mr Coughlin is passionate about using evidence-based approaches to make lessons engaging, challenging, and inclusive, ensuring that all students develop the knowledge and skills they need for the future.

Ryan Calder

Head of Psychology

Mr Ryan Calder transitioned from journalism into education over a decade ago, bringing a strong background in communication, creativity, and critical thinking to his teaching. He has taught across a range of subjects, from A-Level Psychology to GCSE and IGCSE English and Maths, in both classroom and remote settings. His earlier experience as a music and sport teacher, including directing concerts and school productions, reflects his belief in the transformative role of the arts in learning. Mr Calder holds a BA in English, Psychology and Fine Arts, a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology, and a PGCE, and has recently completed an MA in Music Psychology at the University of Sheffield. A lifelong learner, he is fascinated by the intersection of music and psychology in education, while also balancing family life as a husband and father of three.

Mrs Pajan is a dedicated and approachable school counsellor with over ten years’ experience supporting students’ mental health and personal development. She is a certified counsellor under Lembaga Kaunseling Malaysia, ensuring her practice meets professional standards. Throughout her career, she has worked with a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, low self-esteem, adjustment challenges, and more complex emotional and behavioural concerns. Her extensive experience includes counselling in both day and boarding school settings, helping students navigate the unique pressures of adolescence while fostering resilience, confidence, and self-awareness. Mrs Pajan holds a Master’s in Applied Psychology from Middlesex University, UK, a Master’s in Counselling from OUM, Malaysia, and a Bachelor of Psychology from HELP University. She has also volunteered for various causes. At Epsom College Malaysia, she works closely with students and staff to create a safe, supportive environment.

Dominique Perrang

Economics & Business Studies Teacher and Deputy Headteacher, Curriculum, Performance & Student Outcomes

Mrs Dominique Perrang joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2022 as an Economics and Business teacher. This is her seventh year in Malaysia, having previously taught at Repton, where she guided students who achieved the highest score in the world for A-Level Business and the top score in Malaysia for AS Economics and Business. Over her 13 years in education, many of her students have progressed to top universities, including NUS, Stanford and LSE. She has previously served as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Head of Department and Student Services Coordinator, gaining extensive leadership experience in curriculum development, staff mentoring and student achievement. Mrs Perrang holds an Honours degree and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Johannesburg, with her Master’s dissertation focusing on blended learning leadership and support. She has served as a Lead Teacher in gamification, as well as a Lead Teacher and Presenter for the national Ecubed project, cultivating employability and entrepreneurship education. Mrs Perrang also brings extensive experience in intervention strategies, ranging from telematics and district-level initiatives to her current role as Deputy Headteacher, where she leads data-driven systems for monitoring progress, coordinating timely interventions and designing personalised academic pathways. At Epsom, she has reignited WSC and Round Square and spearheaded the first FOBISIA student-led AI conference, reflecting her strong commitment to holistic education and enrichment.

He has taught at Hatfield School in Pretoria and Maragon Mooikloof High School, gaining extensive experience teaching senior Business Studies and supporting students through mentoring and pastoral roles. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Louw has actively coached rugby and managed other sports such as hockey, swimming, and soccer, fostering strong connections between students, staff, and parents. He also contributes to student life by supporting pupils in the boarding house, encouraging both academic progress and personal growth. Ms Mohana Sunthari has over 28 years of experience teaching Economics, including 25 years at the same institution, where her students consistently achieved some of the best A Level results in the country. She holds a degree in Social Science, majoring in Economics, from the University of Science Malaysia, as well as a Diploma in Teaching and Training from Cambridge University. Beyond Economics, Ms Sunthari is also a qualified meditation teacher, combining academic excellence with a passion for holistic well-being.

Phillip Bruce

Business and Economics Teacher

Mr Phillip is a Business and Economics Teacher with over ten years of international teaching experience across Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Mozambique, and the United Arab Emirates. He holds a Bachelor of Education Honours in Accounting and a Master of Education in Educational Management from Midlands State University, Zimbabwe. He has taught Business Studies, Business Math, Economics, and Accounting in diverse curricula including Cambridge, IEB, and American systems. Phillip is currently pursuing his PhD in Education (Educational Leadership and Management) at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on Entrepreneurial leadership of school food gardens: A key factor for catalysing sustainable education in the era of 4IR. Russell Crann

Director of Performing Arts

Mr Russell Crann joined Epsom College Malaysia in April 2018 and is now Director of Performing Arts. He studied Music at the University of Bristol before completing his PGCE at the University of Suffolk. A passionate musician, he holds Grade VIII in French Horn, Piano, and Violin, and first developed his love of music as a Chorister at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Since leading the Performing Arts department, Mr Crann has been musical director for six major musicals, including We Will Rock You, and has produced more than 20 concerts and productions each year. He has expanded the instrumental teaching programme to over 200 weekly lessons and established more than ten ensembles and orchestras. He has also created opportunities for students to perform at festivals, competitions, and alongside professional musicians. Mr Crann believes that understanding music is key to appreciating it, and he inspires students with this philosophy across all areas of the performing arts.

Tamlyn Calder

With twenty years of teaching experience, Mrs Tamlyn Calder brings her passion for Drama and performance to the classroom. She has taught students from primary level through to A-Level, fostering creativity, building confidence, and nurturing a lifelong appreciation of theatre. She has directed numerous school productions and has also taught English, History, and Arts & Culture in independent boarding schools in South Africa. At Epsom College Malaysia, Mrs Calder has strengthened the Drama Department by developing engaging curricula, staging ambitious productions, and creating opportunities for students to experience theatre both within and beyond the classroom. She believes that theatre empowers young people to discover their voice and express themselves with confidence.

Jenny Garnett

Drama Teacher and Assistant Headteacher, Wellbeing & Behaviour

Mrs Jennifer Garnett is a very experienced and successful educator who has worked in boarding schools before joining us at Epsom. Her philosophy resonates very closely with Epsom’s – she recognises all her students as individuals and values and celebrates this individuality in her lessons. Mrs Garnett considers her subjects of English and Dramatic Arts to be a wonderful combination because they allow her to be very creative with her teaching and to use Drama skills to teach the English language. She believes that this enables her students to have fun and learn at the same time. Mrs Garnett has an infectious enthusiasm for her subjects and her energy and positivity shine through!

Nicholas Smith

Music Teacher

Mr Nick Smith studied Music at the University of Huddersfield before completing postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He retrained as a classroom teacher in 2008–09 and has since taught in schools in Wales, Brunei and Malaysia, most recently as Head of Music at King Henry VIII College. Mr Smith previously enjoyed a distinguished career as a freelance horn player. In 1998 he became a founding member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, beginning a long association with the region. He also performed with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, touring across Europe, Asia and the Americas, and worked with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel and Vladimir Ashkenazy. His recordings include work with the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC ensembles, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the MPO. At Epsom, Mr Smith combines his international performance experience with a passion for teaching and inspiring young musicians.

Azmi bin Azhar

Head of Prep School Music and Propert Assistant Housemaster

Mr Azmi joined Epsom College Malaysia in the 2022/23 academic year. With over a decade of teaching experience since 2010, he is dedicated to inspiring young musicians and fostering a lifelong love of music. He holds a Degree in Music Performance and a Master’s in Music Education, which inform his approach to teaching and developing students’ musical potential. He teaches across KS1 to KS5, supporting students from the early years through to A-Level, including those preparing for their GCSE and A-Level Music examinations. Passionate about creating enriching learning experiences, Mr Azmi also organises school concerts, providing students with opportunities to showcase their talents and build confidence as performers. He firmly believes that every child has the potential to discover their unique musical voice through creativity, exploration, and performance.

Originally from the north of England, she studied at the University of Edinburgh, completed her teaching qualification with the University of Sheffield, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Education. She is passionate about nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and resilience through Art and Design.

Yau Boon Han

Art and Design Teacher

Mr Yau Boon Han is a passionate digital artist who enjoys exploring both digital and traditional mediums. He completed his Diploma in Multimedia Design at Limkokwing University College (2011) and his Bachelor of Digital Media Design at Swinburne University, Melbourne (2012). He obtained his International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE) from the University of East London in 2025. Mr Han’s artistic achievements include winning the Grand Prize at the Nando’s Art Initiative (2016), holding a solo exhibition at Gallery Prima Kuala Lumpur (2019), and being a finalist in the Visual Art Project 4 group exhibition at Rumah Tangsi Kuala Lumpur (2019). Before entering education, he worked for a year in an animation company and spent two years as a freelance digital illustrator. He has taught IGCSE Art and Design for over two years before joining Epsom College Malaysia, where he continues to inspire students through creativity, design, and visual storytelling.

Leanna Chan

Art and Design Assistant

Ms Leanna is an emerging interdisciplinary artist whose work spans assemblage, installation, and experimental video. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Media Arts (2023) and Master of Creative Multimedia (2024) from MMU Cyberjaya, and plans to pursue an iPGCE. She values experimentation in her practice, with research interests including art pedagogy, curatorial practice, ecological art, and media theory. Ms Leanna’s artistic achievements include exhibiting at Muzium Telekom for Immersio (2022) and being shortlisted among the top 25 artists for the ASM ArtScience Prize (2022/23). She is developing a strong interest in education, aiming to combine her growing creative practice with teaching in the arts.

Guthrie Miller

Director of Sports

Mr Guthrie Miller joined Epsom College Malaysia in January 2023 as Director of Sport. Originally from Kent in the South East of England, he completed his degree at the University of Leicester in 2000. With over twenty years of experience in the UK sports development sector, Mr Miller has worked with schools, governing bodies, and charities to access grant funding, increase participation, and improve health and wellbeing outcomes for young people. Since arriving at Epsom, Mr Miller has been focused on building a world-class sports programme across the College’s 50-acre campus, developing opportunities that balance participation with performance. An experienced player and coach of both hockey and cricket, he is a strong advocate for team sport and believes there is a sport or activity for everyone who is open to trying. He helps each student find confidence, resilience, and enjoyment through physical activity.

Lewis Baillie

Director of Enrichment and Student Experience

Mr Lewis Baillie is an experienced educational leader with a strong background in both academics and sport. He has held a number of leadership positions, including Head of Secondary, Deputy Head of Pastoral, and Designated Safeguarding Lead during his eight years in Abu Dhabi. Before that, he spent four years in Malaysia as Director of Sport at KTJ, so he already feels a strong connection to the country. As Director of Enrichment and Student Experience, Mr Baillie brings a real passion for physical education and sport. While he enjoys teaching across all areas, he has a personal love for golf, tennis, and football. Originally from Scotland but raised in England, he studied Sports Science before completing his PGCE in Secondary Education. Mr Baillie has recently completed the NPQML and NPQH awards. Alongside his school leadership, Mr Baillie is also trained as a BSO inspector and has carried out inspections across the Middle East with Penta International, further strengthening his knowledge of international school standards.

Helen Miller

Mrs Helen Miller is Housemistress at Epsom College Malaysia, where she also teaches Physical Education, coordinates educational visits, and serves as Deputy Head of Boarding. She brings extensive experience from over 20 years in the UK independent school sector, followed by an international post at Rugby School Thailand, before joining Epsom in 2022. Through her teaching and leadership, Mrs Miller inspires students to embrace challenge and grow with confidence. She is highly supportive of learning outside of the classroom, leading a wide range of trips and co-curricular opportunities that foster independence, resilience, and a spirit of adventure. Ms Yulia has always been passionate about sport and fitness. She graduated with First-Class Honours in Physical Education from the Russian State University of Physical Education and Sports and has spent her career inspiring young people to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle. While tennis is her main sport, she enjoys all kinds of physical activity and believes that everyone can find something active that brings them joy. Before joining Epsom, Ms Yulia led a highly successful PE Department and gained extensive experience in both teaching and coaching. She is dedicated to helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for sport. Alongside teaching, Ms Yulia is a qualified nutritionist with a personal and scientific approach to health. She works with world-class athletes, particularly professional tennis players, to maximise their performance and recovery. Her work includes analysing bloodwork and genetics to design tailored nutrition, supplementation, and recovery strategies. Ms Yulia also supports adults and children in reaching their health goals whether that’s improving digestion, balancing hormones, or managing weight, focusing always on sustainable habits and long-term wellbeing.

Emily Spivey

PE Teacher and Rosebery Housemistress

Mrs Emily Spivey grew up and was educated in South Wales, after which she studied for a BA(Ed) in PE and Geography at the University of Exeter. Following the completion of her degree, she began her journey into boarding and worked at Dauntsey’s School in England. Mrs Spivey’s husband is Australian, and the two of them spent some time working and living in country Victoria. A return to the UK saw Mrs Spivey continue in boarding with positions at Downe House and Sherborne Girls. More recently, she held a position as Housemistress at an international school in South Korea, which gave her vital experience before becoming the Housemistress of Rosebery House. Not only does Mrs Spivey have a passion for pastoral care, but she is also enthusiastic about sport, crafts, and travelling with her family.

Aliff Haziq

PE Teacher

Mr Aliff Haziq holds a degree in Sport Science from the University of Malaya and has been teaching and coaching for the past three years. He has gained experience in both boarding and day school settings and has been coaching cricket for over 8 years, while continuing to compete actively at a high level. Mr Aliff Haziq believes that sport is more than just physical activity; it is a powerful avenue for developing discipline, resilience, teamwork, and character, skills that extend far beyond the classroom or playing field. He is also passionate about music, which provides him with creativity and balance in his daily life. His teaching approach ensures that every student, regardless of their starting point or ability, has the opportunity to grow, excel, and find joy in physical education.

Jack Jarvis

Mr Jack Jarvis is the Housemaster of Holman House and a Teacher of PE. He graduated from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand with a BSc in Sports Science. Having been a boarder himself from the age of eight, Jack understands the importance of creating a warm, supportive, and structured environment where students feel at home. He is passionate about fostering personal growth, leadership, and a strong sense of community among the boys in his care. Alongside his teaching and pastoral responsibilities, Jack has a lifelong passion for sport and fitness. He has played rugby at a high level, representing Bahrain Rugby Club in the West Asia Premiership, and enjoys sharing his experiences to inspire students both on and off the field.

Johan van Herck

Technical Director

Johan van Herck, Head Coach of the Mouratoglou Tennis Programme, brings an exceptional depth of experience from both elite competition and high-performance coaching. An ATP professional player from 1993 to 2001, Johan spent eight years on the tour, including five years ranked within the world’s Top 100, achieving a career-high ATP ranking of 65. Since 2020, he has been part of Mouratoglou International, where he serves as Sports and Technical Director, Head of Tennis Coach Recruitment, and a consultant to the Mouratoglou Academy. Johan also held the role of Head Coach and Captain of the Belgian Davis Cup men’s team from 2011 to 2023, leading Belgium to Davis Cup finals in 2015 (against Great Britain) and 2017 (against France). In addition, he served as Head Coach and Captain of the Belgian Billie Jean King Cup women’s team from 2019 to 2023. With qualifications including a Diploma Trainer in A-level Tennis and the Belgian equivalent of a Master Performance Coach, Johan is widely respected for his strategic leadership, ability to build strong relationships, and commitment to developing excellence within a positive and collaborative environment.

Hussein Rashid, a distinguished Malaysian tennis figurehead with nearly three decades of experience in the tennis world, seamlessly blends high-performance coaching, competitive playing, and active involvement in developing grassroots programmes in Malaysia. No stranger to the challenges faced by junior players, he has guided over 3,000 juniors in unleashing their full potential. Hussein’s goal is ambitious yet inspiring – he aims for one of his players to clinch a medal in the upcoming 2026 SEA Games, followed by a grand slam victory by 2030 with the current cohort of student athletes at the Mouratoglou Tennis Programme at Epsom Malaysia. As a former Malaysia national tennis athlete, Hussein is familiar with the dedication required both on and off the court to instil grit, tenacity, and discipline in aspiring players. Beyond the court, he actively engages in impactful initiatives, representing the Olympic Council of Malaysia and successfully managing key events such as the Fed Cup (now known as the Billie Jean King Cup) by BNP Paribas. This global exposure has shaped his coaching perspective and his ability to work with players from diverse backgrounds and competitive environments. Mr Yusuf’s coaching philosophy combines an advanced technical understanding of the golf swing with modern, performance-based methods designed to prepare golfers for tournament play and high-pressure competitive situations. He places strong emphasis on developing players who can perform when it matters most, ensuring they are not only technically proficient but also physically and mentally prepared for elite competition. Mr Ignacio Buendía Molina (Nacho) is a UEFA A-licensed coach with a degree in Sports Science and a Master’s degree in Methodology, Analysis and Management of Football Teams from LALIGA. He joined LALIGA in 2023 as a coach for the LALIGA Academy Madrid project. Prior to joining LALIGA, Nacho worked as a coach and fitness trainer within youth academies of clubs in southern Spain, gaining valuable experience in the development of young football players. At Epsom, Nacho ensures the effective implementation of LALIGA’s cutting-edge training methodologies, supporting the holistic development of young football talent.

She brings five years of experience as an IELTS Test Administrator with IDP Education Malaysia and a college, and previously worked as a Special Needs teacher, demonstrating her passion for supporting learners of all abilities. Since joining Epsom in August 2022 as an Examination Officer, Ms Thanesh has progressed into the role of Academic Manager, where she works closely with the Head of School and provides dedicated support to the Senior Leadership Teams and teachers through her Academic Support team. Outside of work, Thanesh enjoys unwinding with music and immersing herself in films, balancing her professional drive with moments of relaxation and creativity.

Muhammad Amirul

Mr Amirul serves as an Examinations Officer, focusing on the operational aspects of examination administration. With a background as an Administrative Coordinator, a strong IT technical skill set, and a passion for data management, he brings excellent organisational and coordination skills to ensure smooth and efficient examination processes. Alongside his examinations role, Mr Amirul continues to support selected administrative tasks across the school. If you have any challenges with Excel or Google Sheets, he is always happy to help.

Imelda Bartolome

Registrar

Ms Imelda supports the admissions of new students at Epsom College Malaysia, managing the process from initial enquiries and Entrance Test arrangements through to the issuance of offers. She joined Epsom in February 2022, having previously served as a Registrar at MAHSA University, KL & Director of Student Services at INTI University, Nilai. Prior to joining Epsom, Ms Imelda also held roles at the University of Reading (Johor campus), Heriot-Watt University (Putrajaya campus) and the International Medical University (IMU), Bukit Jalil. Her professional experience centres on student services, including examinations, academic affairs, student transfers, visa processing and accommodation management. As a former Registrar at MAHSA University, she developed a strong specialism in admissions and has worked in the education sector since 2000. Ms Imelda holds a degree in Social Sciences and Humanities (History & Psychology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (UKM) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning from Veritas University College (VUC), Kuala Lumpur.

Senior Marketing and Admissions Executive

Ms Amelia supports prospective families throughout the admissions journey, from initial enquiry to enrolment, ensuring a well-organised and welcoming experience. Her role spans both admissions and marketing, managing family communications, supporting engagement and outreach activities, and assisting with key events. She also contributes to the wider Sports Academy programmes, particularly in support of marketing initiatives. With an academic background in Psychology, Ms Amelia brings a thoughtful, people-focused approach to understanding family needs and supporting informed decision-making.

Masako Takamiya

Japanese Liaison Officer

Ms Masako Takamiya is our Assistant Housemistress of Carr House, where she builds strong and positive relationships with her students. She is also integral to the close links we maintain with our Japanese families through her role as Japanese Liaison Officer. Ms Takamiya has a strong belief in education and the importance of a holistic approach. She is an excellent role model and ambassador for our school in all that she does. Ms Takamiya is a qualified yoga instructor, and the sessions she runs are equally popular with both staff and students.

Jenna Choi

Korean Liaison Officer

Ms Jenna studied Hotel Management in Switzerland and Marketing & International Business at the University of Cincinnati, USA. Having attended a boarding school in the US from the age of 14, she has a personal understanding of the boarding experience and can relate closely to our students. Since 2019, Ms Jenna has been part of the Epsom community as a parent and is well aware of the concerns and needs of both parents and students. In her role as Korean Liaison, she is committed to fostering strong and trusting relationships between students, parents and the school, and looks forward to supporting the community.

Goh Yang Huan

Senior Manager, Chinese Division Marketing and Admissions

Mr Goh has a strong enthusiasm for both education and marketing, shaped by a diverse and well-rounded professional background. Although he is a Mechanical Engineering graduate, he has spent over ten years teaching and lecturing, supported by a Diploma in Education and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management. He enjoys working closely with people and believes effective communication sits at the heart of both education and marketing. Alongside his marketing responsibilities, he actively manages relationships with parents and supports students beyond the classroom. Ms Cecilia wears many hats at Epsom – China marketing, admissions support, Chinese liaison, and the unofficial “translator of chaos into clarity.” She leads China-focused content localisation and campaigns, strengthens communication with Chinese families and agents, and supports the admissions journey from first enquiry to visa guidance for students and guardians – with care and precision. Her experience in HR and payroll across MNC settings trained her to love accuracy (yes, even the tiny details) and tidy processes. Warm, practical, and lightly humorous, Ms Cecilia believes great communication should feel simple, human, and genuinely reassuring.

Pajan Kaur

Ms Pajan is our dedicated and approachable school counsellor with over 10 years of experience supporting students in their mental health and personal development. She is also a certified counsellor under Lembaga Kaunseling Malaysia, ensuring that her practice meets professional standards. Throughout her career, she has worked with a wide range of mental health cases, from anxiety, low self-esteem, and adjustment issues to more complex emotional and behavioural challenges. Her extensive background includes counselling in both day and boarding school settings, where she has helped students navigate the unique pressures of adolescence while fostering resilience, confidence, and self-awareness. She holds a Master’s in Applied Psychology from Middlesex University, UK, a Master’s in Counselling from OUM, Malaysia, and a Bachelor of Psychology from HELP University, she also volunteered in various causes. At Epsom, she works closely with students and staff to build a safe, supportive environment.

Nor Atiqah Abd Rahman

Ms Atiqah joined Epsom College Malaysia in August 2014, when the school first opened. She holds a Bachelor of Information Science (Hons) in Library Management from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and has extensive experience in the library and information profession, with particular expertise in information and research skills as well as children’s literature. Ms Atiqah began her career in the public sector before spending several years in the corporate sector with Maybank. Driven by a strong passion for education, she later moved into the academic sector, working in private university libraries in Kuala Lumpur, followed by several years at a medical university. At Epsom, Ms Atiqah established the library from its inception and continues to oversee its development, including the expansion of collections and facilities. She supports teaching and learning across both the Prep and Senior Schools through the management and development of library resources and services.

Satwant Kaur

Head Nurse

Ms Satwant has been in the nursing profession for over 43 years, having worked in a variety of government and private hospitals across Malaysia. She specialised in Intensive Care and Coronary Care at the National University Hospital, Singapore, and also has expertise in Geriatric Care, Diabetes and Asthma Nursing. In 2001, Ms Satwant joined the pharmaceutical industry, where she was involved in clinical trials, particularly in oncology. She has conducted training programmes for nurses in Brunei and throughout Malaysia, and has attended numerous professional courses across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. A firm believer in the phrase, “Your health is in your own hands,” Ms Satwant has been part of Epsom since 2017 and enjoys working with children.

Karen Selva

Year 5 Mathematics and Science Teacher

Ms Karen Selva joined Epsom as a Prep School class teacher, bringing with her a wealth of international teaching experience. A graduate of the University of Roehampton, London, Ms Selva has taught at Cairo English School in Egypt and delivered the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum in schools across Qatar and Malaysia. Her global experience has shaped her dynamic teaching style and her ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds. Beyond the classroom, Ms Selva is a keen sports enthusiast who enjoys badminton, climbing, and hiking. She is also a passionate advocate for environmental protection and is deeply committed to instilling a sense of responsibility and sustainability in her students. Mr Matthew Ratcliffe attained a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Nottingham Trent University before completing his PGCE. Prior to joining Epsom, he taught in highly successful schools in the UK and Spain. Mr Ratcliffe ensures engaging and interactive lessons that cater to diverse learning styles. Students under his guidance not only understand the subject matter but also develop a curiosity that extends beyond the classroom. He believes in the power of education and brings a dynamic energy to the classroom that captivates young minds and inspires them to love school and strive to succeed. Beyond the classroom, Mr Ratcliffe enjoys many outdoor pursuits, including hiking, rock climbing, running, swimming, and scuba diving. He hopes to instil in his students a deep respect for the environment and an understanding of its importance through his teaching.

Ruth Duck

Ms Ruth Duck joins us from Madrid, Spain, where she has experience teaching the British Curriculum from EYFS to KS2. She studied for an MA in Education at the University of Dundee in the UK. After graduating, she taught in Edinburgh before moving to Madrid in 2019. Ms Duck loves learning new languages and can speak Spanish and French. She is keen to learn Malay while in Malaysia. A passionate teacher, she enjoys bringing creativity into the classroom, particularly in teaching maths, and loves seeing when a child has that ‘eureka’ moment in their learning. She is a yoga enthusiast and is qualified to teach children’s yoga. While in Spain, Ms Duck began climbing regularly and is keen to continue this sport in Kuala Lumpur. She is particularly looking forward to exploring different climbing spots in Malaysia.

Elizabeth Marshall

English Teacher

Dr. Elizabeth Marshall is an English educator and practising poet with nearly two decades of teaching experience in both secondary schools and universities. She holds a PhD in English (Creative Writing) from the University of Nottingham Malaysia, an MFA in Poetry from City University of Hong Kong, and a BA in Literature from the University of London. Over the years, she has taught English Language, Literature, and Creative Writing at Wesley Methodist School, Asia Pacific University, Multimedia University, and as a guest lecturer at the University of Nottingham. A passionate teacher, she seeks to inspire students to read deeply, write creatively, and think critically. Beyond the classroom, Dr. Marshall is an active poet, with publications including Elaha! Elaha! Malaysian Hybrid Ghazals (2023) and Malaysian Places and Spaces (2024). She also contributes to academic research as an examiner and guest lecturer. At Epsom College, she brings her love for literature and poetry into every lesson.

Gemma Marsden

Gemma was educated in the UK where she attained a first class honours degree in Textile Design and Design Management at Manchester University (formally known as UMIST) which was followed by a PGCE and Masters in Teaching at the University of Manchester. Gemma is an experienced Art and Design teacher with over 12 years teaching experience both in the UK and International settings. Within her career Gemma has also been part of the Senior Leadership team and has helped implement whole school changes such as High Performance Learning as part the school development plan. Gemma enjoys teaching projects across a range of key stages that develop pupils’ cross curricular links as well as their understanding of wider global issues. Gemma believes that teaching pupils creativity will help enhance pupils’ thinking and problem solving skills making them stand out to any future employer. Gemma enjoys experiencing new cultures as well as sports such as Netball, Running and Climbing.

Christopher Carroll

Christopher Carroll, originally hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has an extensive background in teaching various subjects on a global scale. His true ardor lies in the realm of economics, where he thrives as an educator. Christopher’s academic journey led him to the University of Malaya, where he successfully graduated with a degree in Economics, specializing in Theoretical Economics. In addition to his academic achievements, he holds a valuable certification in the Russian Language, attaining a level C1 proficiency, from Karaganda State University.

Dominique Perrang

Deputy Headteacher, Curriculum, Performance and Student Outcomes

Mrs Dominique Perrang joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2022 as an Economics and Business teacher. This is her seventh year in Malaysia, having previously taught at Repton, where she guided students who achieved the highest score in the world for A-Level Business and the top score in Malaysia for AS Economics and Business. Over her 13 years in education, many of her students have progressed to top universities, including NUS, Stanford and LSE. She has previously served as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Head of Department and Student Services Coordinator, gaining extensive leadership experience in curriculum development, staff mentoring and student achievement. Mrs Perrang holds an Honours degree and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Johannesburg, with her Master’s dissertation focusing on blended learning leadership and support. She has served as a Lead Teacher in gamification, as well as a Lead Teacher and Presenter for the national Ecubed project, cultivating employability and entrepreneurship education. Mrs Perrang also brings extensive experience in intervention strategies, ranging from telematics and district-level initiatives to her current role as Deputy Headteacher, where she leads data-driven systems for monitoring progress, coordinating timely interventions and designing personalised academic pathways. At Epsom, she has reignited WSC and Round Square and spearheaded the first FOBISIA student-led AI conference, reflecting her strong commitment to holistic education and enrichment.

Jane Rouson

EMIP Teacher, Head of Prep School

Mrs Jane Rouson is from Sussex in the South of England. After earning a BA in Music and Primary Education from King Alfred’s, Winchester (now Winchester University) she started working in a Junior School in her hometown, indeed, the largest Junior School in West Sussex. During her 15 years teaching at this large school, indeed the largest in West Sussex, she taught all of Key Stage 2 but mainly Year 6. As well as teaching, Mrs Rouson held the positions of Assessment Leader and Head of ‘Learning to Learn’. Further promotions led to her appointment as Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for Teaching and Learning, Assessment, staff Development and Academic Monitoring. She also held many pastoral responsibilities within the school and was a staff governor for 13 years. Mrs Rouson was also seconded to the local authority to advise on curriculum development, teaching and learning and mathematics in other schools. More recently she has been a teacher and leader at a prestigious international school in Korea where she also holds whole school leadership responsibilities.

David Setiabudi

With over 20 years of teaching experience in Indonesia and Malaysia, David Setiabudi is renowned for making Computer Science dynamic and engaging. He combines enthusiasm and creativity to simplify complex concepts, making them captivating and easy to understand for his students.

David Setiabudi holds multiple degrees: a Master’s in Design, a Master’s in Information Technology, a Diploma in Optometry, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with distinction. His innovative thinking has earned him several awards, including recognition as the first Indonesian game creator by MURI (Museum of Indonesian Records). He has also developed over 200 computer games, available for free at www.divinekids.com.

David’s multilingual skills in Indonesian, English, Mandarin, and Malay, along with his commitment to learning Japanese and Korean, enhance his ability to make Computer Science education from grades 3 through 13 (A-Level and IGCSE) both dynamic and memorable.

Richard Lord

Richard brings a wealth of experience to Epsom having been Deputy Headteacher responsible for curriculum and pastoral areas in high performing schools in the United Kingdom as well as a Head of an international school in Malaysia. Richard holds a Masters degree in Leadership and Management in Education for Learning, and the National Professional Qualification for Headteachers (NPQH). He is a Specialist Leader of Education through the UK National College for Teaching and Leadership and has provided high quality support to teachers and senior leaders across a range of UK schools.

Richard has high expectations of all students and is committed to the highest educational standards. He believes not only in exceptional academic achievement, but also the values necessary for students to develop into responsible young adults that can make a positive contribution to society.

Richard’s enthusiasm for a high quality co-curricular programme in schools is inspired directly by his own broad ranging personal interests. He is a strong advocate of the importance of learning languages and is studying Brazilian Portuguese and Bahasa Melayu. He is also a competent martial artist, having studied several South East Asian martial arts and western combat sports including Pencak Silat, Muay Thai and several forms of Chinese Kung Fu. Richard is also a keen musician; he plays bass guitar and has played in several bands in and around the London area.

Ryan Murphy

Physics Teacher

Ryan Murphy has thirteen years of successful experience in teaching subjects such as Physics, Mathematics and General Science at International Schools in the Middle East and Asia. He specialises in teaching Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 Physics as this is where his professional interest lies. Ryan graduated from Rhodes University in South Africa in 2005 with a B.SC Honors Degree in Physics and Electronics. He is a passionate teacher and finds it incredibly motivating to see learning taking place and the joy it brings to his students.

He is a firm believer in the power of positive thinking inside and out of the classroom, and that teachers should set high expectations and moral standards for their students and that students need to be diligent in their studies. Ryan also believes in having an open mind and positive attitude. He wants students to think of the classroom as a small community where each individual is encouraged to ask questions and to feel free to share ideas and experiences.

Denu Sankey

A-Level Chemistry

Denu’s work permeates many areas of our school community. As a Chemistry specialist Denu is integral to the success of our Science department. She has a particular interest in supporting students with additional needs and leads our Learning Support Centre where she enables students to overcome challenges relating to their learning by taking a very individualised approach. Every child will have a bespoke programme to suit their individual needs. As Head of Crawfurd House, Denu supports her girls both academically and pastorally, ensuring the highest standards of care. Prior to joining Epsom, Denu taught in the UK (Coopers’ Company & Coborn School) and at Garden International School (KL) and is heavily involved in charity fundraising events such as the RNLI and Oxfam.

Liang Hui Ho

Mandarin Teacher

Ms Ho Liang Hui is a native Mandarin speaker from Taiwan and brings over 20 years’ teaching experience to her position. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Study from the International College of Chinese Studies, Shanghai Normal University and a Master’s in Chinese Studies from New Era University College. She also holds a Montessori Certificate in Early Childhood from Segi College. Ms Ho Liang Hui enjoys an infectious enthusiasm for and devotion to teaching and introducing Mandarin to her students – she aspires for them to enjoy the learning process. Beyond her teaching, Ms Ho Liang Hui enjoys watching Traditional Chinese Opera – Xiqu – as well as trying out different baking recipes. She also loves spending time with her dogs during her leisure time.

Peng Yuanzhen

Ms Peng is a native Mandarin speaker from Mainland China, who joined Epsom having taught previously in Rafflesia International School. Ms Peng is extremely talented and well qualified and holds a Master’s degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from Sun Yat-sen University Guangzhou, China. She enjoys sharing Chinese culture, Zentangle, yoga and reading traditional Chinese medicine books. Ms Peng leads our highly successful Mandarin Department as well as the Mandarin side of the English Mandarin Immersion Programme in the Prep School.

Nicola Long

PE and Drama Teacher

Prior to joining Epsom, Mrs Nicola Long spent 12 years on the beautiful island of Jeju, where she taught as a Junior Specialist, leading the curriculum for Junior School Dance. She has over 20 years of teaching and coaching experience. Her main philosophy is that students should be provided with a safe and happy environment where they can experience success and progress, in order for them to thrive, flourish and excel both personally and academically. Mrs Long went to school in Hampshire and has danced and performed her whole life. She started assisting at her dance school when she was 14 and realised that she had found her vocation. Since then she has always taught or coached in some capacity. She gained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Dance from Winchester University and a PGCE from Warwick University. She taught at a well-respected Independent Prep. School in the UK before her first international position in South Korea. Outside of teaching Mrs Long is interested in health and fitness, reading, films, animals and family.

Shanthi Pillay

Shanthi has a proven track record of enabling students to achieve academic success. Her students regularly achieve excellent grades. Shanthi has worked as an examiner for many years and knows the syllabus that she delivers inside-out, hence she is able to ensure that her students understand the core essentials of the subject. Shanthi has led successful departments and been part of the leadership team in previous roles. Julia Martinez

Having always had a love for the natural word, Ms Julia Martinez studied Microbiology at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh where she received a 1st Class honors degree. She then carried out scientific research at the University of Aberdeen where she found her love of teaching through the University’s outreach programme. In 2006, she graduated from The University of Edinburgh with a PGDE in Biology and started her teaching career in Scotland, later relocating to London, Uganda, Thailand and the Dominican Republic before joining Epsom College as Head of Biology and Assistant Housemistress of Crawfurd House. She is currently furthering her education by studying for an MSc in International Education with the University of St Andrews. Her love for life long learning, experience in teaching Biology and her passion for supporting students enable her to give Epsom students the highest quality educational experience and the pastoral care to thrive in Boarding.

Jack Jarvis

Mr Jack Jarvis is the Housemaster of Holman House and a Teacher of PE. He graduated from The University of Canterbury, in New Zealand with a BSc in Sports Science. Having been a boarder himself since the age of 8, Jack understands the importance of creating a warm, supportive, and structured environment where students feel at home. Christopher Carroll

Christopher Carroll, originally hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has an extensive background in teaching various subjects on a global scale. His true ardor lies in the realm of economics, where he thrives as an educator. Christopher’s academic journey led him to the University of Malaya, where he successfully graduated with a degree in Economics, specializing in Theoretical Economics. In addition to his academic achievements, he holds a valuable certification in the Russian Language, attaining a level C1 proficiency, from Karaganda State University.

Christopher’s passion for economics has not only fueled his educational pursuits but has also shaped his worldview. His dedication to imparting knowledge and fostering a deep understanding of economic principles has left an indelible mark on the students he has taught. As he continues his journey with Epsom, Christopher Carroll remains committed to advancing his expertise in the field of economics and sharing his wealth of knowledge with the next generation of learners.

Michael Stearman

Head of Key Stage 3, PE Coach

Michael holds a sports degree from Leeds Carnegie and began his career teaching Physical Education in the north of England in a multicultural school, specialising in football, cricket and rugby before moving to teach in Madrid, Spain, where he spent ten years as Head of Physical Education with various leadership responsibilities. 
 
 Michael believes a well rounded education is extremely important in a young person’s development. He is keen to create opportunities both inside and outside the classroom and considers every aspect of a student’s experience at school to be vital. Michael’s experience in leadership led him to support students in both an academic and pastoral setting and he is keen to support Epsom’s Key Stage three students in their leadership journey. 
 
As a passionate geographer, Michael adeptly imparts knowledge spanning the physical, environmental, and human aspects of the subject. His pedagogical approach ensures that students glean a comprehensive understanding of the world around them.
 
Michael’s personal interests span various landscapes as well. An avid runner, football enthusiast and keen hiker, he is keen to explore the beautiful country of Malaysia. His loyalty transcends borders, supporting both Liverpool FC and Atlético de Madrid. 

Phil Pedro

Director of Accreditation

Mr Phil Pedro is the Director of Accreditation at Epsom College Malaysia, overseeing educational standards and supporting new school openings across the region. With a distinguished career in international education, he has worked in leading boarding and day schools in the UK, Austria, Germany, Spain, and Japan, bringing a truly global perspective to his leadership. Before his current role, Mr Pedro served as Head of Sixth Form and led several academic departments, including Economics, Business, Accounting, EPQ, and Languages. He has successfully led the COBIS accreditation process at Epsom, securing the school’s recognition as a double beacon of excellence. Mr Pedro holds a PGCE from the University of Leeds and a master’s degree following studies in France, Spain, Germany, and England. Beyond education, he is an avid sports enthusiast who enjoys swimming, running, hiking, and embarking on long-distance cycling adventures across the globe.
