A Memorable Visit from Pos Malaysia to Our Pen Pal CCA

The Pen Pal CCA at Epsom College in Malaysia had the privilege of welcoming representatives from Pos Malaysia on Thursday, 20th March. This term, our students have been writing to their pen pals in South Africa, fostering international friendships through the art of letter-writing. The visit from Haidan bin Abdul Rahman, Head of the Stamps and Philately Unit, and Norsad binti Saad (Rock), Senior Associate of Stamp Production, provided a fascinating insight into the history and significance of stamps and postage.
The Pos Malaysia team shared an extensive collection of stamps, including themed stamps, envelopes, and postcards, capturing the students’ curiosity and excitement. The students were particularly captivated by the intricate designs and the cultural significance behind different stamp themes. For many, this was their first exposure to the world of philately, opening their eyes to the rich history of the postal system and postage stamps.
A highlight of the session was the hands-on activity where students wrote and addressed their own postcards, learning the correct placement of stamps and addresses—an essential skill in letter-writing. For some, this was their first time handling real mail, making it a truly educational and memorable experience. The most exciting moment came when Pos Malaysia unveiled a special edition of Epsom College in Malaysia stamps, a keepsake that made the day even more special.
We are incredibly grateful to Pos Malaysia for their time, expertise, and generosity. We are excited for the students to apply the knowledge they have learnt from this and continue writing to their new friends from South Africa.
