Accepting this role as a Wilson House Prefect meant embracing a journey of leadership and mentorship within the Wilson community. In this article, we’ll take a deep dive into our daily routines – balancing academic rigour with house responsibilities. We will explore how we foster a supportive environment during our daily prep sessions and the importance of leading by example to maintain the vibrant spirit within Wilson.
Our day begins at 8 am, with a round of the register. Whether it be the morning or evening register, we act as the first point of contact between students and house staff. Our goal is to ensure every student feels seen and heard, whether it’s offering advice on time management or simply being a friend to those who are facing difficulties. This mentorship is the heartbeat of Wilson, making it a home away from home for everyone part of it.
We continue into our school day and classes, from 8:15 am to 4:00 pm. In between classes, we ensure we greet and chat with fellow house members; house community does not end within our house. From conversations with our Year 12s during break or free periods to greeting our younger juniors in the hallways.
After classes, we attend CCAs, with a diverse selection to choose from. We are able to interact with students we may otherwise not have much opportunity to. On Wednesdays, we attend prefect meetings during CCA 1. Here, we are able to communicate with the prefect team and ensure our house is up to date with all required information, from events to sales.
Between CCA and evening registration, we have time to eat, shower, and rest. After night registration, we have our nightly prep from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, after which we go down to the common room and make ourselves available to talk to housemates and staff. The majority of our duties lie in being available to support, interact, and be active within our house.
As House Prefects, it is our main priority to build a strong, supportive community for students to depend on and grow within. We are incredibly proud to represent Wilson as Head and Deputy Head of House, proud of how far we have come as a house, and excited for the future.
