At Epsom College Malaysia, our counselling team is here to guide students through every step of their academic journey and beyond. From subject choices and university applications to supporting academic enrichment and personal development, the counsellors provide tailored support to help each student thrive. In this feature, we’d like to introduce the team, explain the services we offer, and share how we support our students.
One of our core roles is academic guidance. We work with students to make informed subject and university choices by providing high-quality and unbiased information, so that our students and their families can feel supported and equipped to make informed decisions. From Year 9 options advice to Year 12 workshops on building college lists, the team ensures students are well-informed at each stage of their journey.
We also offer dedicated support when it comes to applying to university and preparing for future career paths. This includes personalised advice on written applications, regardless of destination; explaining the admissions process for global university destinations, and providing access to career exploration tools such as psychometric testing and the Unifrog platform. We also organise events designed to help students get informed about and prepared for their next steps, such as university fairs, mock interviews, and guest speakers.
Importantly, we also support student wellbeing. We welcome one-to-one conversations with students from all year groups, and our hybrid model ensures there is always support available. Ms Macleod is based on campus and meets students during the school day. Mrs Carden-Brown is based in the UK and meets students online, after the school day into the evening.
For parents, we make ourselves available at information evenings, offer individual consultations, and provide regular updates to ensure families feel supported and involved in their child’s journey.
KATE: I’m delighted to introduce myself as part of Epsom’s Higher Education and University Guidance team. I have many years of experience supporting students with their university applications, from helping them explore their interests to guiding them through personal statements, essays, and interviews. I have had the privilege of supporting successful applications to the world’s most selective universities, including Oxbridge and the Ivy League, across disciplines ranging from Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science to Law, Economics, and Mathematics. Based in the UK, I support Epsom students and families online after school hours, advising on university applications and academic enrichment to help them develop impactful profiles and achieve their goals.
ANNA: Like Kate, over the years I have supported students with successful applications to a wide range of universities and disciplines. In school, I enjoy meeting with students of all ages, understanding their goals and helping them work out a plan to achieve them. Based on campus, I am available during the school day for one-to-one appointments with both parents and students.
