The Music Department has an incredible line-up of events this term, showcasing the talent and dedication of our students across all age groups. From solo instrumentalists to full orchestras, there’s something for everyone to look forward to.
Instrumental Music Competition – 27th February
The annual Instrumental Music Competition returns, open to all students from Year 5 to Year 13. Throughout the day, students will compete in a range of categories, demonstrating their musical skills across a variety of instruments. The competition culminates in the Winners’ Concert at 7pm in the Theatre, where the top performers will showcase their award-winning pieces. This event always highlights the exceptional musicianship at Epsom – an evening not to be missed!
Prep School Concert – 20th March
Our Prep School students take centre stage for a TV & Film Music Spectacular. Featuring performances from the Prep School Instrumental Programme, Choirs, and Orchestra, this concert promises to be a lively and engaging event. Expect well-loved soundtracks and familiar themes brought to life by our youngest musicians.
10-Year Anniversary Gala Concert – 25th March
A landmark occasion for Epsom, the 10-Year Anniversary Gala Concert will be our most ambitious concert to date. This grand celebration of classical music features two performances: a 3pm concert for students and a 7pm gala event for parents and guests.
The programme will showcase a range of classical masterpieces, with performances from all of Epsom’s ensembles. The Orchestra will present one of the most recognisable symphonic works of all time, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, alongside the elegant and expressive Piano Concerto No. 21 by Mozart. The Chamber Orchestra will accompany several soloists in a varied selection of repertoire, including a Guitar Concerto, vocal performances, and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, featuring two flute soloists and a violinist. Both the Choir and Staff Choir will also perform, presenting a selection of traditional choral pieces.
Adding to the significance of the evening, Mr Brown will take to the stage for a farewell performance, playing a classical guitar duet in what will be his final concert at Epsom.
With such a rich and varied programme, this promises to be a truly memorable evening and a fitting way to celebrate a decade of musical excellence at Epsom.
Looking Ahead – Junior Production of Oliver!
As we move into next term, the spotlight will shift from the concert stage to the world of musical theatre with the Junior Production of Oliver! This beloved classic, based on Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, brings to life the story of a young orphan navigating the streets of Victorian London. With well-known songs, lively choreography, and a cast of talented young performers, this production promises to be an exciting and entertaining showcase of Epsom’s theatrical talent. More details will be announced soon, but it’s certainly an event to look forward to.
