Carr Students Climbing To New Heights

This weekend, the Carr boys participated in an exciting yet challenging rock climbing activity at Camp 5 at 1 Utama Shopping Mall. As they climbed the walls, it was impossible not to draw parallels between the physical challenge of climbing and the metaphorical walls they have been tackling in their Epsom journeys this year. From adapting to a new school environment to mastering new skills, the boys’ determination and teamwork have been nothing short of inspiring.

One of the greatest challenges these boys have encountered is adapting to life at Epsom. For some, this has meant embracing the shift to boarding life; for others, it has involved learning a new language and being taught in it. Through it all, they have consistently given their all, approaching every activity with dedication and always “playing like gentlemen”, whether in victory or defeat. These are no small accomplishments, yet each boy has demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth as he finds his place within the Carr and Epsom communities.

The start of Senior School or involvement in a new sport, academy or CCA presented another set of challenges. These walls required courage and a willingness to step out of their comfort zones. Just like on the climbing wall, they’ve discovered that progress is made one step at a time, with the support of their peers and Epsom staff acting as the ropes and harnesses that keep them secure and motivated.

Sunday’s climb at Camp 5 was a great representation of the Carr ethos. As staff and friends cheered on the climbers from below, it mirrored how our community uplifts and encourages each boy on his unique journey. While each climber is at a different point on the wall, they’re all climbing together, united by shared goals and mutual support.

Reflecting on how far these Carr boys have come, it is heartwarming to see their growth. As we progress through Term Two, we are reminded that every challenge faced and every wall climbed is a testament to the strength of the Carr and Epsom communities. Together, we climb higher. Keep climbing Carr, one step at a time.
