Epsom College in Malaysia Unveils Exciting History Competitions!

Author: Chantal Thompson, Head of History and Politics

We are delighted to introduce a range of new history competitions in the History Department at Epsom College in Malaysia! These challenges are designed to ignite curiosity and deepen students’ understanding of history through engaging activities.

  1. History Readers Award: Each year group in KS3 and KS4 will have the opportunity to tackle tailored reading tasks covering various SPEARS categories—Social, Political, Economic, Armed Conflict, Religious, and Science. Complete all tasks for your year group to earn the prestigious History Readers Award!
  2. Inquisitive Historian Award: For those keen on exploring historical events from diverse perspectives, the ‘Meanwhile Elsewhere’ challenges are ideal. Each year group will explore materials that complement and extend their current curriculum. Complete six of these stimulating tasks to win the Inquisitive Historian Award.
  3. Hilary Mantal Young Historical Writers Award: Unleash your creativity by writing a historical fiction short story. This competition is open to all year groups, and the best story will be honored with the Hilary Mantal Young Historical Writers Award.

These competitions are designed to foster a passion for history and encourage innovative exploration of the past.

For more details on how to participate, visit Mrs Thompson in the History Department, check out the Reading Challenge display and join the History Reading Challenge Google Classroom using code lhu53gx. A new set of readings will be released at the beginning of every half term.

We can’t wait to celebrate your outstanding work throughout the year. Happy exploring!
